51  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / First Ever painted Quilt for Dad (pic heavy) on: April 01, 2015 07:31:31 AM
My Dad is the hardest man on Earth to shop for. Every Christmas the entire family freaks out and complains about it. Last year I decided to make him a quilt since he always says he is cold. At the time I had no idea what I was getting into. I had never quilted anything successfully before.
I wanted to make it personal for him so each block was either something about him or a family member. Problem was, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I had the hardest time getting just the right fabrics. I had no idea a simple beagle or Chihuahua was going to be a headache to find. In the end I decided to paint the squares that I couldn't find. Also, a non cartoon alien or bigfoot is nearly impossible to find too.  Tongue
Another impossibility is getting a picture of my Dad that his dog isn't photobombing. LOL!
Here is a pic without the boarder done yet.

Here is a shot of some of the individual squares I painted

and here are some shots of the individual blocks.
My sisters block had her dog and The Wizard of Oz on it.

And here are blocks of his beloved dog and the cat

I know it is a super simple design but for my first quilt I was completely overwhelmed.  Tongue I had no idea it was going to be so much work and I was on a deadline for Christmas. I am happy to say I got it done. Sorry for taking so long to post up!
52  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Cloud Light on: April 01, 2015 07:05:26 AM
I have been on this huge kick since my divorce on redecorating my house and making it mine, finally.  Wink I wanted to add some whim and quirkiness to it. I have an extra room now that I am hoping to turn into a multifunctional office/guest room/reading room. I have seen these on Pinterest for a while but I thought that they looked hard to make. Not sure why. Huh It was super easy. I have to admit it looks a lot better in a photograph than it does in person. With the lights on it just looks like a big piece of fluff hanging there. Undecided I was thinking if I made a couple more and had some other things around it (hot air balloon, birds, etc) it would look better.
Here is my little cloud hanging in the shower for now. I have to decide where I want to hang it up....

and here it is all lit up. I used tiny LED lights and I am thinking of getting one that flashes to give it more of a storm cloud feel.

I took a bunch of dark shots because it was turning and each angle looked a bit different to me.
53  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Scrappy Scarf on: October 27, 2014 08:22:21 AM
I saw on Pinterest a very pretty scarf made with scrap fabrics. The person made it with a serger and had large pieces of fabric panels. I don't own a serger but thought it would be really cute to make it with smaller patches and make it more useable in the winter, not so much as a fashion scarf. I have been saving up my scraps for this one for a couple months trying to get enough variety of the purple. It's for my sister and that is her favorite color. I backed it with a soft, cozy flannel and it worked really well.
I am really happy with how it turned out. Whenever I get time, most likely after Christmas, I plan on going thru my scraps again and making me one too.  Grin
Here it is on my table
and here is it in action, sorry for the stupid expression. The camera was not cooperating and this was the only pic in focus.  Tongue

 Thanks for looking!
54  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Frankenstein & Skulls Halloween Purses on: October 21, 2014 01:20:39 PM
I kept saying I was going to make myself a purse. As long as I have been attempting to make them I have never carried one that I made. I always give them away. At the beginning of the month I was going on a trip to Vegas with my Dad and decided it was time to do it and make one that would travel well. I have made this pattern more than a few times and I still have one more request for it so it will be made one more time, but it really is a great pattern.
Here is my Halloween bag for October and probably for the rest of the year too.

on the back is the Bride of Frankenstein. Sorry for the sloppy shot. I have been using the purse for about 4 weeks now and I just took a quick shot to post it up.

I also made one for Bunny1kenobi for the IYP swap. We met up in Vegas and actually got to meet which was beyond awesome! I knew her right away because she was carrying the bag I made for her!

I added zippers to the tops of both of these so they are a bit different than the others that just had the magnetic closure.
Thanks for looking and I promise after this next one I will find a new pattern.  Tongue
55  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Skull Splatter on: October 21, 2014 05:39:08 AM
I wanted to try something a little bit different. I had this idea of doing a line drawing and water coloring loosely over it. I never watercolor so I was just winging it. I chose a skull to get in the spirit of the season. After I finished the line drawing and water coloring I thought it needed more so I brought out the spray inks and gave it a couple squirts with both green and a teal. I think the teal has a shimmer to it which I liked.
The skull isn't perfect. This was more of an experimental piece. I also used a brush pen for the inking instead of a regular pen for a more organic feel.
Thanks for checking it out! Grin
56  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Luna the Lady on: September 23, 2014 07:10:22 AM

This was done for Suereal in the IYP swap. I also did her other dog Cosmo as a gentleman.
This one is Luna the Lady. She wanted her dog to be anthropomorphic Steampunk characters. I think Luna has some sass.  Smiley I cut her out and raised her from the background for a more dimensional effect. I have never done someone's animal before so I was intimidated. Much less switch them around so much. I really hope she likes them. I sent them to her parents home so she hasn't seen them up close yet.

 Thanks for looking! Grin
57  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Cosmo the Gentleman on: September 23, 2014 07:06:04 AM

I made this piece for Suereal in the IYP swap. She asked for her dogs in an anthropomorphic style as Steampunk people. I have never done anything like this before so I was really intimidated to even try it but I think it turned out neat. I hope she likes them. They were sent to her parents house so she hasn't actually seem them close up yet.
I cut them out and posted them on the background to give them a bit of depth. They were done in Copic markers. Cosmo was in warm gray and the rest in a neutral gray.

 Thanks for looking!
58  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Oh Deer! Pot holder on: September 09, 2014 10:55:04 AM
I made this a bit ago but never posted it. It was for Kwality570 for the Woodland Creature and Enchanted Forest Swap.
I bought a pattern and then completely reworked it. Originally it was for a cute fox. I still plan on making it for myself, but projects for myself always seem to never materialize.  Tongue
I switched it around and worked it into a little deer. It has the heat resistant interfacing (I forget what it's called but it has the silver crunchy stuff in it) so that you won't get burnt when you use it. I thought it turned out cute.
59  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Owl Purse & Coin Purse on: September 09, 2014 10:48:30 AM
I haven't posted up in a while and realized I hadn't added this guy up yet! I made him for Kwality570 for the Woodland Creature and Enchanted Forest Swap. I had a lot of fun making the owl purse. I didn't use a pattern and it was one of my first real attempts at machine embroidering one piece of fabric over another.
The strap is adjustable. Ever since I figured out how to do that I love it. Nothing is worse that a purse with a strap that is a hair to short or long.  Tongue

I also made a coin purse to go with it but not be too matchy.  Wink

Thanks for checking them out! Grin
