1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Please help me make this ice cream hat for my friend on: September 08, 2008 04:22:30 PM
I know melbangel is a designer who sells on etsy.  Maybe she's selling the pattern?
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: HELP! Fancy yarns will kill me! on: September 08, 2008 04:15:46 PM
Right now a lot of the "fancy" yarn has been showing on clearance at Hobby Lobby, so I've been buying it up.  A group of us from work use it to make charity scarfs and hats for a local elementary school.  We cut the yarn in various lengths, then randomly tie different colors and weights together and make a whole new ball of yarn. (I also tie in all of my scraps from other projects.).  Then we use a double strand to make the hats and scarves.  1 strand of the scrap ball yarn and 1 strand of Red Heart Super Saver.  We usually use black or white to offset all of the colors.

Here's a link to the pattern we use. http://www.yarncat.com/ScrapTweedTasselHat.html

I also make huge afghans for my family using the scrap yarn and black.  Hope this helps you out.

I found this post recently and just loved the idea and pattern.  Here's my take.   Thanks so much for posting the pattern.

I haven't tried looking at Michael's, but I find them at Hobby Lobby with the doll making supplies.
7  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / Re: Amigurumi - Where do I start? on: August 18, 2008 06:16:28 PM
I think the basic instructions and pattern at crochet me are pretty good.

Here's a list of some free patterns.

And I always point people to this site for free pattens.

I usually encourage people to make a couple of scarves or potholders for their first project in crochet.  I think it's easier to do squares and rectangles when you're first learning crochet.

Be warned, making amigurmi is additctive!

I've used this foundation chain to start afghans.  It just might work for you.

Love these!  Finally some amigurumi that wouldn't embarrass my teenage nephews!  Let us know if you ever decide to sell the pattern.
