1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Manicurious on: May 09, 2013 10:23:56 AM
I had no idea people posted manicures here! I've apparently been away from Craftster for entirely too long.

This past year I've done quite a bit of nail art (and not really much else, craft-wise), so I thought I would share a few of my favorite designs. All are painted on my natural nails using nail polish, and quite a few of these were done for various online competitions. If anyone is curious about the polishes used, I'm happy to share, just ask (i also have them listed on my blog).

Mary Shelley Manicure

Super Mario Bros. Manicure

RHPS Manicure

Bone Pit French Tips

Hungry Hungry Hippos Manicure

Alice in Wonderland Manicure

Calvin & Hobbes Manicure

Christmas Tree Manicure

and here are a couple stamped manicures:

I've got lots more, but these are my favorites Smiley
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Sugar skull on: October 04, 2011 12:15:46 PM
Hi! I completed this necklace recently for a friend to give her partner for their 3-year crystal anniversary Smiley

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / The Willipus on: March 31, 2011 11:21:05 AM
Another product of my stash-only/one-evening Christmas challenge! Acrylic paints and ink on illustration board (approx 11x17") . I picked up a 3-pack of illustration boards for my Zombie valentine last year, and i keep forgetting how awesome this stuff is to work on (other than it warps quite a bit, but framing solves that nicely). The colours looks so fresh and bright, and it takes lots of washes without falling apart. The Willipus is for Nven's baby William, who was dubbed The Willipus when he was but a wee little guy. Hes still technically a wee little guy, but man is he growing fast Cheesy

Also: octopi are fun to draw!

4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / red fox in the snow scratchboard on: March 30, 2011 11:19:29 AM

This is a 5x7" scratchboard of a red fox. I was worried itd look like an arctic fox without the colour, but definitely not poofy enough Wink

I would have liked to work on the paws more, but this was part of a Christmas challenge i gave myself: stash-only supplies and an upper limit of one evening crafting time per item (btw, we celebrated Christmas in march this year with our friends to give everyone some more crafting time and a break from family Christmases). Overall it turned out well, and I enjoyed working within these constraints. It was very... calming(?)... to not have the option to fuss with little details for days.

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / typography and papercut valentines on: February 15, 2011 11:33:10 AM
Its sort of become a tradition over the last couple of years for me and my guy to make each other valentines. We're like an old married couple: i help him find the craft supplies he needs from my stash, then we hole up at opposite ends of the living room and work, occasionally uttering threats and hinting at dire consequences should someone peak.

This year I decided i really wanted to try papercutting. I don't think i used the best paper (printer paper?) and my blade was kinda dull, but i think it turned out pretty sweet for my first try. it was also way more fun than i expected.

baby, i love your brains

I'd like to find an oval frame for it, but for now i just cut a paper one Smiley

I gave him his valentine and he loved it... but flipped it over, looked between the layers and double-checked the envelope... then gave me sad puppy eyes, quietly commenting that there was no a message. I didn't realized the shortfall of my concept until that exact moment: whereas he' d given me an incredibly cute valentine with really thoughtful coupons (presented as a mini-treasure hunt through messages left in my gmail calendar, cellphone and in my purse), my project kind of lacked... sentiment.

so on to valentine #2: The Message. Ive wanted to try doing a typography type poster for ages. Turns out typography layouts are hard and take way longer than youd expect. go figure.

I'm pretty sure he like the second one better Wink
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Burlesque accessories! on: January 19, 2011 10:12:07 AM
Hello Smiley My friends and I make merch for the burlesque troupe we belong to - we make pasties and facinators/headbands, as well as other things. We usually have a couple "pastie nights" leading up to the shows where we get together and craft for hours while killing off copious amounts of brain cells from the glue fumes. Its a lot of fun, and makes some fun money for the troupe Smiley

I thought i'd share a some of the pieces i've made. we rarely get pictures since we're usually too tired by the time we're done, but for the last show i made a point of getting pictures of at least some of the stuff Cheesy

Here are some pasties (all pretty simple):

and facinators (we use vintage costume jewelry in most of the pieces):

I have more on my website, but those are some of my favorites. we also make much more elaborate pasties and headresses for our acts, which i'll post a few of when i dig out the costumes Smiley wotcha think?

8  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Burger scratchboard on: January 17, 2011 01:54:40 PM
allo! i've been incredibly lazy with posting pictures recently... well, in the last year really Smiley anyway, trying to get back into the crafty groove so thought i'd post a few christmas present projects!

Clayboard scratchboard, 8x10"
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / warning: romance ahead! on: August 25, 2010 06:51:50 AM
On Wednesday August 4, 2010 at 11:59pm, while down on the dock watching Perseids, dear boy gave me a ring. yes, THAT kind of ring. Blinded momentarily from the glare of the ipad screen tracking the stars overhead, i couldnt see it and was confused about what he was asking. and then i laughed. as he professed his love and described the incredibly romantic process of making me a ring, i continued to laugh. you know, that sort of hysterical laugh you get when you cant seem to process whats going on around you. good thing he loves me.

He said he wanted me to choose my own engagement ring (apparently Im fussy *cough*), so he made something for me to wear until then. He made the ring himself, with no help or experience, somehow without me noticing. He measured my finger in my sleep with string and worked on it for weeks in the few moments before i got home in the evenings. Not even my mysteriously depleted metal stock clued me in.

Its sterling silver with a copper heart, and has the word "forever" stamped inside the ring. Talk about a surprise Smiley

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / feather earrings on: May 17, 2010 08:01:04 AM
Finally attempted some feather jewelry. Buying feathers at Michaels is really not a good plan - by the time i had my test feathers trimmed to the right size, the main stalk of the feather (quill?) was too thin and weak to hold up to wire wrapping. anyway, found these black and red feathers that were a bit sturdier and it worked out well. i think i will also pick up a lighter gauge of wire for future projects- the thick wire looks nice but was tricky to wrap without snapping the delicate feathers.
