Very cool! What a great way to use the yin/yang idea!

Wow, those are really beautiful. I love the design!

I'm Bethany and I'm in Kailua. I'm 23 and I moved here in May. It's great to hear about all the crafty people in Hawaii! The Aloha Knitters group sounds like a lot of fun -- I'd love to attend a meeting -- I haven't really met anyone here yet, as I'm just freelancing at home for now. It would be great to talk to and meet others who enjoy crafting too!

I mostly sew and crochet, and am learning to quilt and I'd love to learn to knit. I'd love to learn Hawaiian quilting, too, especially for gifts for family on the mainland. Currently I'm into altering and making clothes, particularly dresses, and I'm building up a stash of vintage dress patterns.

I'd call it a pieced (peaced?) scarf. Very chic. I like how the print kind of rhymes with repetition.

The idea is easy, but your workmanship is outstanding!

Thanks! Pieced sounds better, you're right.  Smiley

You did a really good job on fixing it up.  How'd you take the elastic out so cleanly?

It wasn't too bad, actually. I turned the dress inside out, and cut a little hole on the fabric covering the elastic near the side seam where the elastic was sewed to the dress. (The elastic was covered with extra folds of fabric and only sewed to the dress at the ends/side seams.) I snipped the elastic and then did the same for the other side. Because it was really two pieces of elastic (one for the front and one for the back), it was four snips. Since it's on the inside, though, on the folds of fabric, the holes don't go through to the outside.

Thanks for the feed back, everyone!
7  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Why are you Vegetarian/Vegan? on: October 01, 2007 07:52:03 PM
I think i'm one of the few vegetarians who doesn't like PETA all that much.

PETA didn't affect my decision to become vegetarian, and I don't like some of their practices.

Am I alone on this?

You're not alone! I actually don't like PETA much, either. I read their blogs sometimes, and like that they give out recipes and information on actually being/becoming a vegetarian (some of it is why I chose to be a vegetarian), but I hate their methods, advertising, and attitude. Most of it is negative, not positive. I think they turn more people off than they convert, and that's sad. Someone should start a better organization!
