1  Lights In The Window in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by dawt on: December 18, 2010 01:25:18 AM
Fantastical, my new buzz word. I saw something similar on-line and knew I had to try it. Its the closest thing to fantastical come-to-life as Ill probably ever get. (The butterflies are a bit hokey, but I needed something to cover the wire of the lights wrapped around the curtain rod. Ill have to work on that little detail, Im sure I can make it better.)

If you'd like to see it in action, here is a very short video of my bedroom window, lights turning on and off by remote control. (I know, right?!) It is such a beautiful, peaceful image to behold just before I close my eyes for the night. Click.

2  Re: 1/7/09 - Best of 2008 is here! in Latest News by dawt on: April 20, 2009 01:26:29 AM
I just found this discussion topic (that's me, always behind just a tad bit), and I want to add my thanks for being included amongst the "stars"! Really, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I received the PM telling me about it. Here it is a few months later and I'm STILL in a state of shock and thrilled beyond belief!

My daughters are the ones who got me started here and when they found out I made the list they were just as excited as I was, and one of them made me this:

Thanks again for bestowing me such an honor, you all don't know how much this means to me.

Finally, the picture I promised of the wood-burned/painted plaque my daughter made for me. It's a replica of the award Craftster gave to those who were honored in their Best of 2008 crafts. I'm still stoked! Thank you, Valerie, you rock AND roll!

4  Re: The All Things Oz Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by dawt on: January 23, 2009 02:31:48 PM
FINALLY posting photos from SacTownSue's Ozzy goodness she sent me. I'm sorry for taking so derned long, extra apologies go to my fantastic swap partner. Warning: you will be oh-so jealous (but in a good way!) Wink

The first thing I saw was this huge yellow satiny zippered bag, the details of which are astounding. SacTownSue is professional all the way, just look at the luscious red lining! Notice the type-written tags that accompanied each item, so creative (and yes, I happen to have a couple of pairs of ruby reds I can use this for).

Inside the 'yellow brick' was yet another bag, this one with an adorable blue-gingham lining and just the right size for makeup.

Inside of the red zippered pouch was my very own personal rainbow!

Also inside the red pouch was my most favorite of all gifts, a glass pendant with soldered edging. Not only did it have Dorothy on one side and Toto on the other, but it also says, "Dawt," my user name! As if that wasn't enough to make me pee myself from the excitement of that, the cord is adjustable, man, she thought of EVERYTHING!

My partner is also a comedian, look what she wrote about Dr. Oz, so funny! I loves me some sparkle, too!

All the loot together:

Thank you again, SacTownSue, for all the hard work and love you put into our swap. I will cherish my gifts, always!

Here's a new error message I've gotten a couple of times that says "DNS failure"...

There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it like the other one that comes up around 11:00 p.m. or so. (see below)

I use Mozilla's Firefox browser if that helps any.

6  Butterfly Sewing Machine Cozy in Completed Projects by dawt on: October 19, 2008 08:31:59 PM
I honestly didn't think my sewing machine cover was Craftster-worthy, but my crafty friend, Jinjeet Phoenix, told me that this is the sort of thing that helps encourage other crafters, especially novices like me, to share their own creations, so here goes...

My daughters bought me this Singer sewing machine for my birthday last month (I know, huh?!). It's perfectly simple, just what I imagined getting for myself, but it still has quite a few 'fancy' stitches to choose from.

I cut up the box it came in and used the pieces as a template. I have trouble grasping abstract concepts, so even though it may look like a simple box, believe me, it wasn't simple for me.

I managed to insert some rick-rack along the top and in each of the top seems. Since I'm out of practice I didn't quite capture all of it as I was sewing so some of the rick-rack doesn't come through. It was the first time I ever attempted to do anything like that, so I'm okay with it. Lesson learned.

I lined it with white felt to give it some structure but it still droops a bit because I made it a bit too big for its britches.

Here's a close-up of the fabric. The butterflies are outlined with gold but I couldn't quite capture the sheen. The colors are sort of Moroccan, so scrumptious!

I made it in one sitting, probably would have done a better job if I had taken more time, but I was too excited about making it to stop before it was completed. Next on the agenda are new curtains (the 1970s gold just doesn't cut it) to go with some valances I already have.

Thanks for looking!

Just an FYI: Got that same ol' error message here again just a little bit ago. It lasted from about 11:00 to 11:09 p.m.

8  Re: Vintage Apron Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by dawt on: August 26, 2008 10:09:51 AM
Just got a PM that ScotSkipper402 received! She said, "It's here. And it's WONDERFUL. I'm so spoiled! the stars look EXACTLY like mid-ocean at night. (At least, the Atlantic... haven't seen any others yet). Off to notify the org. Now I'm sorry that the swap is over. It's been so much fun!"

Here are the photos I took before sending as she doesn't have access to a camera:

My partner said she isn't a girlie-girl, so I went with the fact that she likes nautical things. I put everything in a tote w/sailboats on it (going for aqua but I think it's more teal, sorry),

I told her I thought the print looked like what I imagined the night sky to be like way out in the middle of the ocean with sparkly stars and misty clouds. She agreed, whew!

I buy white hand towels in bulk at Costco's (in the auto dept.) and use the heck out of them in my kitchen and thought my partner might like a couple. I sewed matching trim to one of the ends, nothing fancy but handy-dandy. I crocheted 2 dish rags (my daughter made a bunch for me & I use 'em every day, then she got me hooked on making them myself), threw in some vintage coasters from Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, Calif., just for fun, and made a seashell pin out of one of my first pieces of resin I ever made.

Closeup of resin pin:

Me with apron. It took me about 10 hours total to sew it because I was so out of practice!

Thanks again for putting this swap together, it was quite a challenge for me and has inspired me to possibly make some of these for Christmas presents!

Okie dokie, pokies, here are the promised pics.

I didn't get one apron...I got TWO! with a note attached to a vintage post card and 3 tea bags to boot!

The pink/peach one just kept unfolding and unfolding and it was more like a dress than an apron. It's sure to cover every single spot when I cook! It fits a lot better than the floral one (I'm fat and the neck is snug), so that one will be for display. It's too pretty to use anyway!

My partner said this fabric is "Schumacher family," but I'm not fabric savvy so I don't know what that means.

I'm not trying to stick my boobs in the air, I'm just struggling to suck in my tummy!

ScotSkipper402 said the bib was made with a 1977 wall calender, how clever! I love the floral embroidery work, and now I'm gonna be on the lookout for 'em cause that's such a great idea.

Me in my normal state...with mouth agape

Thank you, ScotSkipper402! Yours will be going out tomorrow! Also, a big thank you to our organizer, elvissatx, for putting this together!

10  Re: The All Things OZ Swap-CLOSED in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by dawt on: August 17, 2008 02:03:59 PM
YAY! I am officially IN  Grin
... well, I was wondering if just me is slutty enough to wear a naughty Dorothy/tin-girl/other character costume...

Welcome to the swap, everybody, I'm so excited!

Not slutty, but I did manage a little naughty for Halloween last year. Every year we go to a friend's who throw some pretty creative parties, and last year, for the first time in my life I dressed as Dorothy and even brought Toto along...my hubby! *snicker* It was a hoot.

I used a picture of myself in that get-up for my Oz club's Halloween card exchange last year. I dressed up our 3 dogs and took some pics, and then one of my daughters photo-shopped it and created a postcard for me to mail out (it's my computer wallpaper, too). *Note to self: must find better bra.
