1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Best place to sell handmade one of a kind clothing? on: March 23, 2011 11:52:54 AM
I sell one of a a kind clothing and wedding dresses and am wondering where is the best place to sell it online? I  am not thrilled with etsy/artfire/zibbet/dawanda. Any other ideas? I need a free or low price to list and low commission if I can find it. Thanks !!
2  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Best color for tea stained look? Recycled clothes and fabric on: November 05, 2010 11:40:30 AM
I make clothes and want to add a tea stained look to things I make. I want to use dyes to achieve an even color and colorfastness. It looks like it may be best to use something like Dylon, but does anyone have any suggestions?

I am not really seeing a color that looks just right at Dharma....should I go with a darker brown and just pull it out before it gets dark ? I haven't done any dying but Rit dyes and they faded pretty fast.

Something lighter and slightly shellpink or ecru would be great. I'd like to use something that would work on mostly cottons, but other fabrics too possibly and that will work on mostly white or white based prints.

I can probably find these locally, but I would just like to know what all I need, and would it be better to order a kit online with all the additives?

Thanks for all the help!

4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / New Shop with a need for fresh eyes. Could you check it out? on: November 29, 2009 05:45:56 PM
I just opened a website after a few years of being on etsy only. I wanted a place online to have my domain set up. I started out here at craftster and haven't posted a lot lately...moving...resetting my shop...etc. My shop is getting hits from twittering, but no one is finding it or staying once they arrive. No sales either. Any suggestions?

The shop is at bigcartel. I tried a standalone website and couldn't get a free cart to either work/be secure. Take a look and tell me what you see and I'm not. The pics are darker there than on etsy and I'm not allowed too much leeway with the html without digging into the code.

Do the styles look dorky? Too much money? Unattractive layout? I can't 'see'  what's wrong.

Thanks in advance for the help!!! Here's the link

5  UNITED STATES / South Carolina / Charleston area crafts??? on: May 14, 2008 12:55:04 PM
Hi, I'm not quite as active here recently, but wanted to get a bit of information. I'm considering a move to the Charleston area and wondered what you could tell me about the area as far as crafting groups, supply shops, brick and mortar shops to sell to, anything you can think of!! My stuff is primarily sewing, but I'm interested in the crafts community....more the merrier!! Is there any more hospitable section in and around Charleston for crafts?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!!
6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Etsy dumb question? on: May 22, 2007 07:18:18 PM
I am trying to find the answer to this question and coming up empty. If you sell on etsy.com, do you have to pay fees to etsy and to Paypal. If the person buys with a Credit card is it automatically processed through Paypal or can you get it another way, like a direct deposit to your bank?

Just trying to figure it all out! Thanks!
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Top of the morning, to you! on: April 30, 2007 05:22:48 PM
I've been playing with making tops and these are the first two I've tried. Both of them are in the brown/ green range and actually look much better in person.

This one has pockets and an applique flower.

This one has puffy sleeves and a 'tie'.

I used purchased t's to make the patterns.

I'd love your comments!!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Orange flower bag - vinyl and applque bird and flowers on: March 30, 2007 09:01:23 PM
I was having a crafting block this week and needed to change things up a little. So I decided to make myself a big vinyl bag. Big, to fit all the numerous items I am finding that I carry  - and vinyl, just 'cause and since it is easy to keep clean.

I put this in the corner since it needed something for balance.

I found some scrumptious orange vinyl for accent and made a birdie and flower applique. I placed it on a pocket, since I wasn't sure it would turn out. Then I lined the pocket, since it had fuzziness on the back of the vinyl. I thought the pocket would be great for cell phone or sunglasses, etc. It has a brown floral liner and inside pocket(no pic). I put the orange strip around the top and am really happy with it. It also has a brown floral/orange vinyl strap.

I hope you like it and would appreciate your comments!!
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Vinyl tiny pouches! Coloriffic! on: March 18, 2007 04:00:51 PM
I made some tiny pouches with the bright new colors of vinyl I found. I had fun making them! They are perfect for business cards and are unlined.

The purple one has a velvet bird flying home.

This one has a dotted ribbon going horizontally on the front and vertically on the back. I love how the ribbon colors pop!

I love coments!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Trying out the spring circle skirt thing! on: March 18, 2007 03:47:11 PM
I found some bright spring fabrics and decided to try out the circle skirt idea. They were not difficult. I may be making more!

The first one is a super bright fun fabric.

Next I tried one with pockets in a cool vintage fabric with a ribbon hem.

The last one has a fun little fish applique hiding among the coral and a ribbon hem.

Circle skirts are quick and very swirly!
