1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Dinosaur & Watermelon on: July 05, 2009 12:40:08 AM
My first project post on Craftster!  I've made many more things... but I haven't posted until now.  I guess I'm really excited about this lil guy!

I wanted to make a birthday present for a friend after I broke a mechanical toy dinosaur that his girlfriend gave him.  I saw an embroidery pattern of the dinosaur and got inspired  to make it after I blew it up.

With his girlfriend's input on colors and favorite dinosaur- this is what is made.

Rather than just make a lil dinosaur plushie I wanted it to have a lil surprise.  So i basically used 4 layers of fleece and 4 layers of batting to make "2" dinosaurs and sewed them together side by side to make a pouch in the middle of the layers where I can hide the watermelon in.  I started stuffing the lil guy with batting to make him extra plump and huggable.  My favorite part of this project is how the dinosaur looks so innocent and mischievous at the same time.

The watermelon.  I know it's a lil out of proportion, but as my friend says:  it's a prehistoric watermelon and it's just a BABY dinosaur.

Do you think my friend will forgive me now?  (Luckily, he was able to fix the mechanical toy as well.)

2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Looking for Good Blanket Yarns on: June 10, 2008 06:07:04 PM
Hi Everyone,

I'm a new crafter... more of a lurker on this site getting inspired with every post.  I'm currently studying for midterms but I have a huge goal for this summer and would like some advice.

I'm looking for
- cheap
- cotton
- available in a rainbow of colors

yarn so that I can crochet a month away during my vacation time to make something like this...

http://rosylittlethings.typepad.com/posie_gets_cozy/2007/02/ripple_finale.html

I fell in love with this ripple look and thought it was the most amazing thing since the rainbow.

I have a personal favorite of Lilly's Sugar and Cream yarn.. however, it's not very soft and I would love for this blanket to be soft and warm and cozy- everything a blanket should be.

I'm a new crocheter so I don't have stash yarn, so I figure why not find an excuse to go buy a whole yarn section and give myself a project that can be simple and beautiful.

Any advice on yarns would greatly be appreciated.  If it can be found in Joannes or Micheals, even better!!!
