2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Anubis, Isis, Pharaoh & Bastet - Egyptian gods/goddesses on: November 01, 2014 10:40:56 AM

So - I convinced my husband that I wanted to do Egyptian gods/goddesses for Halloween. TWO WEEKS BEFORE. I'm batsh*tcrazy. Didn't have any patterns - so I had to make my own. Did I mention that I'm not that accomplished as an sewer?? Or a sculpter?? But I did it anyways  Shocked
First off (for Anubis) - I purchased a make your own mask from recycled cardboard printout from https://www.etsy.com/listing/164933131/aminal-mask-make-your-own-dog-mask-from?ref=shop_home_active_9. Thankfully, it was stupid proof.  After I put it together, I covered it with a layer of paper pulp. After that, I covered with a very small layer of paper clay (DAS) - sanded that and painted with spray paint. After the black was dry, I put on details with a gold Sharpie, and then covered with gold acrylic. Lastly - a layer of clear protectant and then hot glued on a liquid gold headcovering.  Bastet mask was a half mask purchased online, which I painted the same way as Anubis and attached the liquid gold headcovering the same as well.  Three of the collars were handmade by me - made by making a pattern with an embroidery hoop and a lampshade (I couldn't find anything else circular in our house!!!). BTW - liquid gold fabric is EVIL. Seriously. The skirts I made the boys hold them as I cut around and made my pattern from fabric (yay draping!!). The dresses for the kids were taken off of dresses my daughter had in her closet. Which I made a pattern from by laying them flat and tracing around them. The belts were freeform drawn on paper. Belts and collars have a variety of metallic ribbon & ric rac sewn, as well as gold lame seam binding. I didn't make the pharaoh's headdress (but I sewed on the blue part and fixed the shoddy construction of it) or the collar for Anubis, and my dress (Bastet) was a vintage dress in my closet - but everything else was made - by me! I'm super proud of it, especially since I've never done anything like this before! Yay!!  Grin
Hope y'all enjoy it!

3  COOKING / Dessert / Catholic School week cuppycakes on: February 10, 2013 01:50:39 PM
So I volunteer at my kids' school alot. And especially when they have roller skating (I used to do derby) - I stop by every day and help out w/the kids (mostly the K/1 classes). I told them if they were good - and listened to me - I'd give them a handsome treat at the end of skating. So I made 108 (yup - I'm batshitcrazy) of these bad boys for ALL the students/faculty/teachers at their school during Catholic schools week for them. And it took me over 60+ hrs to make them all - but the kids totally deserved it. And that's what matters Cheesy  They were a bit weirded out by eating Jesus & the Virgin Mary - for all of about 2 seconds Cheesy

4  COOKING / Dessert / Thank you for being a friend.... on: February 10, 2013 01:44:32 PM
A friend of mine asked me to do some cupcakes for another friend of hers that was leaving work - and his favorite things were France (and everything related!), Pugs (he has 2 black ones), the gay pride flag (he's very proud to be gay) and Golden Girls. I was super excited to to the Golden Girls - who doesn't love them?? I found some lovely artwork online from Glen Hanson (LOVE his work!!) and used it. And I think they turned out AWESOME! Cheesy Let me know what you think!

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Silk Garden twirly skirt! on: September 30, 2012 04:36:49 PM

Wink  So - I found this lovely pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/31-tiered-skirt- but wasn't sure the XL would fit my, ahem, assets. So I sized up a needle (proly didn't have to - but it hangs lovely this way) and this is what I got!
I also added rows to make it longer (I <3 me some long swingy skirts!) and crocheted a scalloped border w/handspun tussah silk to make it hang better.

Wink  So the manflesh's big 40th birthday - I was requested to make a special set of cuppy cakes just for him. Since I know he LOVES The Big Lebowski (see my Walter perler here https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=390247.msg4620168#4620168), I decided it would be perfect for it. And they turned out BEYOND AWESOME!!! Let me know what'ya think!

7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Crazy Phineas & Ferb cupcakes! on: October 23, 2011 05:16:25 PM

Wink So my kids were born 11.5 months apart - so I tend to usually celebrate with one big party every year. And it has to be a unisex - boys & girls theme, since I have one of each. This year they chose Phineas & Ferb - which is awesome because I secretly watch them myself Smiley  I've been doing these kind of cupcakes for awhile - but the cupcakes themselves are from a box. Sad, but after all the effort I put into the toppers - I just don't care. I melt candy wafers and pipe out the outline & then fill them in - hope you like these!

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / You're outta your element, Donny! on: September 07, 2011 11:11:24 AM
So I was looking for something different to make the manflesh for his birthday - and I stumbled upon his fav movie - The Big Lebowski. I figured - what the hey - I'll make him a set of giant Lebowski perlers for fun. Took a couple of days, and some help from my 5yr old, but I think it turned out awesome! Walter - as Lebowski intended...

9  COOKING / Dessert / Dr. Suess in cupcake form on: September 06, 2010 01:47:56 PM
Wink So the rug monkeys wanted a Dr. Seuss themed birthday cupcakes for their party at school - who am I to say no? Here are the cupcakes I made for them - the characters from the Dr. Seuss books are made from melted chocolate piped from ziplock bags onto a wax paper then placed on the cupcakes. Most of them even made it to school okay  Roll Eyes  Let me know whatya think!

So I planned on doing six of these....but time is not my friend. Will post the remaining three when I finish them... Tongue

These were given to family as presents this Christmas. Calender blanks purchased from SeptemberHouse on Etsy.

This one is Da Vinci's Head of a Young Woman. Flesh colored floss - 2 strands on cream/natural cotton.

This one is Dali's Persistence of Memory - I have always loved the melty clocks Smiley This one is 2 strand for most of it but a couple of spots I used all 6 strands. Colored in some parts with colored pencil and ironed it in.

And my absolute fav - I LOVE Van Gogh. LOVE. This is Van Gogh's Bedroom. Two strands of floss on cotton.
