1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Toilet paper tube Santa on: December 04, 2006 07:10:36 AM
amazing!   Shocked
I've been looking for christmas ideas for our craft night in my uni hols (because we are cool students  Cool) and this is perfect.  I think its important to make use of empty toilet rolls.  toilet roll is far too expensive to only use the paper part.   Grin

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: A travel bag... post-travelling on: September 24, 2006 03:38:10 AM
Thanks guys!  Smiley  I was in Bangkok doing some volunteer work and went round Thailand a bit at the weekend... Fun times.

The only thing with the pockets at the front is they gape open a bit cos they're pleated - So I tried some iron on velcro but it didnt stick too well... I guess the answer is to plan better and sew in some magnetic clasps before the bag is put together?  Any ideas for adding closures after the bag is finished?
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A travel bag... post-travelling on: September 22, 2006 06:03:21 AM
I made this bag for my travels, specially designed with lots of pockets and secret compartments to save emptying all my belongings on airport floors to find my passport etc..  Roll Eyes
I was away for just over two months, and am very impressed that it is still in a fit state to take me around uni  Smiley
It also made a fantastic cushion for sitting on muddy grass at festivals this summer.

A wee close up of the many layers of pockets:

I love it, and I hope you do too.
All comments welcome.

Did you use a stencil?  I've tried and failed so many times at painting pictures on my bags I've given up  Roll Eyes but yours looks really professional!  Any tips?
6  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: anyone from UK? on: March 07, 2006 01:06:39 PM
I buy most of my fabric from local shops, it kinda helps that I work in a fabric shop  Roll Eyes but for ages I thought there were hardly any fabric shops nearby, then I searched yell.com for fabric and found tonnes!  It does depend what sort of fabric your looking for though, as most tend to be very furnishings-focussed  Undecided  However if its bag-making your into, I find curtain fabric stronger and easier to work with than most dress fabrics anyway!

www.cheapfabric.co.uk looks impressive.. though I've not tried them out yet.

Good luck!
