1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Different edges for Top-Down Raglan! on: January 12, 2009 02:26:16 PM
if i was to do the garter stitch border, would using smaller needles on that help it not to curl as well?

did it turn out soft? what kind of fabric did you use?
what a great idea!

I believe that if you bring a self addressed envelope with you they will send your stuff back to you so that you won't lose expensive needles. I would hate to lose my interchangeables!!
I would check on that before you go, though, just in case Smiley
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Different edges for Top-Down Raglan! on: January 11, 2009 06:59:28 PM
I started knitting a basic top-down raglan sweater on Friday, and it's now Sunday night and I am most of the way done with the body. (I'm on break from college - I can spend 8 hours a day knitting!!  Cheesy) I did a rolled stockinette hem for the neckline and I love how graceful it looks, but I'm wondering about what type of edges/hems I should do on the sleeves and bottom. Will a rolled stockinette hem add too much bulk to the bottom? (Does anyone know where I can find pictures of a sweater with a rolled edge, perhaps?)

Any other ideas for sweater edges that will match my rolled collar? The last several sweaters I've made with ribbed borders have had problems with the edges flipping up despite my best crocheting efforts to weigh them down.

Thanks!!  Smiley

Spark Yarns used to be in Porter Square but I believe that they have closed. A loss to the area Sad there aren't any other yarn stores that I've found near me unless I want to go to Harvard.
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Let's Share Our Christmas Gift Ideas! on: November 23, 2006 09:56:07 AM
i'm making microwaveable rice bags for all of my friends...there are a bunch of them so every year i tend to make the same thing for them with personalized variations (i.e., the fabric).

my sister is getting a quilted tote bag
my mom is getting quilted greeting cards (this is the coolest project EVER) and maybe an apron? i like to quilt.
my other sister is probably getting another pair of cabled mittens because she lost one of her last pair i made her. this time i will attach them with a long string  Wink

my dad is fairly impossible because he always goes shopping right before christmas to buy himself things. that's the dumbest idea in the world.

I love it! I've always felt gypped because I'm the only sister in my three sister family who makes stuff. So I never get prezzies like this! Very nice--I'm very jealous of your sis!

so i got my driver's license two days ago, and i decided that a new wallet to keep my license in would be a perfect way to celebrate. and of course a new wallet needs a new purse to put it in...
