1  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / amigurumi bunny named Eli on: August 27, 2006 04:46:13 PM
my friend's birthday was yesterday and i had promised i would make him an amigurumi.  i decided to just wing it and came up with this little guy.  he is about 5 1/2 inches tall (6 inches if his ears were standing straight up).  i am so proud of him because i am not that great at crocheting in the round and i was really not sure what he would look like in the end.  i put beans in his bottom so he will stand up.

glamour shot...

his temporary name is Eli, though i imagine my friend will want to name him for himself.
2  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / hot pink and green snail shoes on: August 27, 2006 04:39:47 PM
so i had bought these shoes and they had flowers on them.  i pulled the flowers off because i have two similar pairs but different colors.  i love the shape though.  for a little while i had snaps that i could interchange decorations, but the snaps kept pulling off.  so the shoes sat in my room for about 6 months.  finally i decided to make snail shoes because i love snails and i had seen some shoes (camper brand i think) that had snails.  so here you go!

i used felt and it probably will wear poorly, but i imagine i wont wear them that much (have to have the right outfit).  yay for snails!

3  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 14 ENTRIES / Teeny "Snail love" stencil on: August 04, 2006 06:39:09 PM
ok!  my first craft challenge entry!

i have just learned to stencil, so i thought i would try to make a tiny stencil.  and i love snails.  so i thought, hey that's an idea.  so i drew and cut with an x-acto...
i think i cut pretty nicely.  here's measurement proof of its tiny-ness:

so then i was like, what do i do with a tiny snail stencil?  i want to make myself a checkbook cover, so i stenciled the little guy onto some fabric that will eventually be made into a [normal sized] checkbook cover.  really my submission is the stencil itself, but you might as well see what it can do!

ironing it on (i think i did it too long, but i was nervous):

it is hard to take a picture with one hand in poor light:

oooh, did it come out?

pretty good.  it bled a bit because i think i ironed too long, and too hot.  but still, i can't wait to make this into a checkbook cover so i can show my snail love!
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Just curious: policy for feedback and angeling on: July 21, 2006 11:11:40 AM
i am asking this out of curiosity.  do swap angels get swap feedback?  is there a policy on this?  i mean i love to angel, and i don't really care if i get feedback for doing so, but i was just wondering!

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / yellow triangle shawl and blue mesh poncho- my first! on: July 13, 2006 07:38:28 PM
so the other day i was in michaels and was suddenly struck with the urge to make something other than an amigurumi or a scarf, which is pretty much my limit with making crochet stuff.  i found this leisure arts booklet "wrapped in style" and liked two of the patterns and thus bought the supplies and made them...yay my first actual projects!!

mesh poncho made with lion brand wool ease in blue mist.  took about 1.25 skeins.

ha! you can see my cat in that last one.  she is sitting on the tub.

trellis shawl made with lion brand microspun in buttercup.  i was not sure about the color when i started, but i really like it now.  i thought it was going to take me 3.5 or so skeins and it took about 2.25 or so.  i checked my gauge!

has anyone else made this shawl pattern?  i didn't totally understand the ending of each row so i fudged it.  it's like "skip next sc and next 2 chs, sc in next ch".  instead i just did an sc in the third ch of the last ch-5 loop.  you do the shell at the beginning of each row.
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / super blue purse set *lots of images* on: July 13, 2006 06:52:07 PM
so i realized this week that my grandma's birthday is this weekend!  so i made these for her.  the fabric is navy with red and blue flowers embellished with red ribbon.

checkbook holder:

inside (yes, my account info has been blurred):

a card holder for all of her quilt shop savings cards:

and an insulin pouch.  actually it's not insulin, but some other diabetes related item she keeps with her all the time, but i am not sure what it is called:

i can't wait to give them to her!  i told my mom what i was making and she said that my grandma really needed a new checkbook holder.  and then she hinted that she (my mom) needed one too.  it was really fun to make so i think i will make a bunch more.
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / resin bottlecap squirrel, hedgehog, moon, and fruit on: July 13, 2006 06:42:55 PM
ok, i know these have been done before, but i finally got around to making some after having the supplies for almost a year.  two of them have seed beads in the resin and one has a sequin.  i haven't put pinbacks on them yet, but they are meant to become pins...

8  Illinois / Illinois: North / Craft show opportunities in 2006: Chicago on: June 13, 2006 09:56:21 AM
I was wondering if we could put together a list here of craft show opportunities in Chicago?  I really want to do some craft sales and want to know my options.  Maybe others are interested as well!  I did Renegade last year, but this year it is $210 fee plus table rental and i lost my craft partner who i shared a space with.  I guess the two shows I know of are:

Renegade Craft Fair, Sept 16/17, $210 fee, due July 1
DIY Trunk Show, Nov 18, $50 fee, due July 15

Maybe if you all know of smaller craft show opportunities you can list them here too?!
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / mother's day birds on: May 17, 2006 06:34:56 PM
i was having trouble coming up with something to make for my mom and grandma for mother's day.  i came up with these...

this one i made for my mom:

this one i made for my grandma:

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / felt ipod case with interchangeable decoration on: May 17, 2006 06:30:34 PM
ok, i know there are tons of people making ipod cases.  but i wanted to show mine too!  i used this template and sized it for my mini.  http://a444.g.akamai.net/7/444/703/20050808152157/www.marthastewart.com/images/pdf/0905_feltcase.pdf

as you can see i made the little decoration interchangeable.  i used velcro.
