Fine Folk,

I'm visiting London in early October and I was wondering if any of you would be so kind as to give me advice as to where to find good Jewelry making supply stores, Thrift stores, Vintage stores, boutiques, flea markets etc. etc. What are the cool neighborhoods?

could you post a tutorial for those of us that are sewing-impared? I want to try to make these dress with jersey, like the actual dress.

"I'm wondering if it's because everyone one said "Kara Janx!" since at that point she would have shown and people wouldn't have known it was a decoy show."

My sister found all the collections online and said Kara's was actually the best. I wonder if you are right....

I AM OUTRAGED! Chloe's collection was absolutely the worst. Why would I be interested in seeing what she'll do in the future? I know EXACTLY what she'll do in the future. Lame, cheap looking casual wear. Daniels was nice, sure, but incredibly boring (do we really need another Calvin Klein-esk designer?). I think that it will be clear who should of won in a near future when we see who is actually the most successful. Santino has built up a following because of Project Runway (just as Jay did), and I think that his fans have taken to him and will be loyal. Daniel and Chloe are rather forgettable, Santino is not.

Somebody please agree with me. Im sick of America thinking that clothing that looks as if it is straight out of the Gap is innovative and good design.

Not to sound harsh. I'm just rather obsessed with the show and a little hyper, at the moment.

I want this top. NOW.

Unfortunately, $300 plus tops aren't in the cards at this particular moment. I am sure that someone with sewing expertise can explain to me in detail how I would go about sewing myself a very similar replica of this fantastically versatille top. CONSIDER IT A CHALLENGE!

Here, I'll provide you with some pictures of similar styles by the same designers to help you along

Thanks, dolls!

7  Illinois / Illinois: North / Looking for someone to share table with at fair on: March 04, 2006 12:26:02 PM
This company called "Shecky's" in New York City holds these big events that are sponsored by a large company and independent designers sell their goods. They'll be having one in Chicago called "Girls Night Out" and it has a guaranteed number of 1500 shoppers. I would like to sell my jewelry, Tuco and Blondie (www.tucoandblondie.com), at the event. The price tag for the table is a little high though ($600), and the company said that I could split a table, but I need to find someone to share it with. Therefore, I'm looking for another designer to share the table with me. The show is on April 6th, you can learn all about it at www.sheckys.com/gno

If anyones interested, e-mail me at Tucoandblondie@hotmail.com

Thank you!

8  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / HELP ME MAKE THIS PURSE #TWO on: March 02, 2006 11:27:32 AM
I decided that I either hate all the handbags out there today, or they are way out of my pricerange. Consequently, I am going to go to the thriftstore and buy a leather jacket today and attempt to roughly mimic this purse
I've never sewed with leather before...so I could use some tips. Also, I'm not so good as a pattern maker because I forget steps that are important, and don't realize it till I am done. SO, what steps should I go through? How do I line leather? Any help would be fabulous! Oh, you can see additional pictures of the bag at... http://haydenharnett.com/boutique/index.cgi?action=detail&style=LORCA&color=yel&view=front&tassel=no&back=http://haydenharnett.com/boutique/index.cgi

Oh, let us just stare at these bags because they are beautiful....

mmmmm, 700$ purses!

I finished my version of the second purse a couple days ago! I'm not sure if it rocks...i'll post it within the next couple days.

using recycled leather from coats is a great idea. I'm a vegetarian, and I typically only use second hand leather. I had never thought of using the leather from jackets...I need to buy a leather needle though.

So, in very simple, non-sewer terms, this is my understanding of how I should make the second purse.

-cut out one giant rectangle for both the outer fabric and line
-cut out strip for handle
-press fabric
-iron interfacing on the wrong side of outer fabric
-press the BAD sides of the outer fabric and lining together (you'll see where i'm going with this...)
-finish the edges of the sides of purse
-sew square lether patch on the front of purse
-fold over fabric, hamburger style, with the lining on the inside and the outer fabric on the outside
-insert zipper
-gather sides around a folded over cord (so there are two single strands of cord hanging down); make sure that cord loops through gold hoops
-tie off cord at bottom of gathered side
-put beads on and the bottom of the cord and tie them off
-apply the leather patches around gold hoop. Put in studs
-make handle (follow Educo's handle instructions). Tie through gold hoop
-tie cord/beads on zipper pull
-put charms and beads on pin, pin into leather patch

TA-DA! Does that sound good? I bought fire-engine red canvas for the lining, I'm using vintage "The Black Hole" (I guess it was a TV show?) bed sheets for the outer fabric, and I'm using red vinyl for the leather accents
