1  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Across the Galaxy Shoes (Painted Converse) on: July 05, 2011 06:33:00 PM
Hi guys!  Haven't seen you for a long time.  Well, I'm back, this time with these new shoes:

I got the idea to paint shoes from the Art Club at our school, but decided I didn't want to wear some cheap canvas sneakers than would probably not last long or be comfortable to wear either.  Instead, I waited, forgot about the project for a while, and finally pounced when a pair of white Converse sneakers went on sale.  My inspiration to paint stars came from a friend, who wanted me to paint supernovas! Which I did.  (From top to bottom, first and second picture:  Swan Nebula, Milky Way, Crab Supernova, constellations including Leo and Cancer).

The Milky Way was inspired by that scene from Doctor Who (and really, my whole life, including these shoes, are) in Vincent and the Doctor where Vincent Van Gogh looks into the night sky and the viewer can see where the inspiration for the Starry Night came from.  Cheesy  Sorry, weird tangent.

I painted these over Spring Break, and it took me about a week to finish these?  I used artist quality acrylic paints that my friend gave me last year.  Then it took a while for me to use glossing medium to coat these (making them water-resistant and shiny) and finally wear them.  I think this is my favorite project to date! Smiley

Hope you like it~

2  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Queen Helene's Cocoa Butter? on: August 20, 2008 09:46:06 AM
Does any one know if Walmart still sells the cocoa butter sticks?  I don't want to order online for such a small amount.  Thanks!
3  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Yaley's beeswax on: July 20, 2008 08:04:47 PM
The story goes like this...
When I was at Joann's, looking for beeswax to use for lip balm, I stumbled across a 1 lb. block of Yaley's White Beeswax for $1.97!  What a steal!  However, I saw that it didn't say what it was for.  So, I bought it anyway, and did research on its safety for use in cosmetics.  However, I couldn't find much, only that it was "100% pharmaceutical grade beeswax".  My question is, do any of you craftsters know anything about it?  From what I've seen, it is consistent in quality, but smells sort of odd.  Thins is my first time using beeswax, though, so I don't know a lot. Thanks!
4  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Supplies in California? on: July 16, 2008 09:47:27 PM
I was wondering, do you know of any suppliers near the SF bay area?  I'm looking for essential oils, flavor oils, waxes, and citric acid.  Thanks!
5  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Essential oil question on: July 08, 2008 09:10:35 AM
I was wondering, because www.brambleberry.com has organic orange essential oil that they say is "lip balm safe", but people also tell me that orange is a photosensitive oil, and should not be used in lip balms.  Would it be safe in lip balms?  Or will it cause photosynthesizing?  Also, would lemongrass oil be safe to use in lip balms?  Replies would be welcome!
6  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Which sewing machine? on: June 25, 2008 04:34:08 PM
So, my mom's machine(which only I use) was never very good.  I want to get a new (or gently used sewing machine), but because my mom's going to pay, it has to be cheap.  I don't want a very fancy one, just something that can zigzag, straight stitch, buttonhole, blind stitch, and possibly overcast.  It does not have to be any certain brand.  I'll appreciate it if you help me. Thanks!Smiley
