1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Mindless Inktober2019 on: October 02, 2019 09:08:57 AM
Inktober 2019 Day two prompt is Mindless. At first I thought I'd make a social statement about the overuse of smartphones. But that felt crotchety and angry and I would be a hypocrite.  Wink
So, as a mother of 5 kids ages 20 to 11, and getting to be an old lady, I was thinking of something that would free my mind and body, and flying through the air sounded good. So, this is what I came up with.

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Eye C U COLORED PENCIL Portrait on: September 30, 2019 07:55:19 AM
This is my nephew. When he was 2 years old I was holding him in my lap at a restaurant and had an impression that he was autistic. I have autistic sons, and have developed a 6th sense about these things. His mother struggled with this announcement, but, they were able to start early intervention. Autistic people are extremely intelligent, awkward and a pleasure to be around, most of the time. Most pictures of this little boy are of him clowning. This photo was taken when he was not aware.

I decided that since people on the spectrum see and feel things differently, that his portrait needed to be bright! The puzzle pieces in the background also hint autism.

Another colored pencil magazine challenge.
I played around with the image and made the colors more vibrant from the original.
I've been using Prismacolors which are so creamy, and I can see why people use a harder pencil to get a sharper line. The difficulty with this drawing was having all of that dark pencil dust land on the lighter parts and having to brush it away, so that it didnt get worked into the lighter areas.

5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Sand Babies COLORED PENCIL on: September 14, 2019 02:42:03 PM

I was so pleased when my mother's friend allowed me to draw this portrait of her grandbabies. I loved every minute of it.
I used the OMS to create a watercolor effect with the colored pencil. The clothing was blended with a colorless blender, and the skin was blended and burnished using peach and white colored pencil and then glazed over the too for more blush and the blue cast from their clothing.

Just finished a Colored Pencil drawing of my doggie. She is a Miniature schnauzer and Scotty mix, and she has been part of our family for 2 years this Christmas. We adopted her at a shelter. She turns three years old this month.

7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / She's a doll on: August 31, 2019 03:23:31 PM
This drawing is another entry for the colored pencil magazine challenge for October. The subject was given and I wouldn't have chosen this to draw except for a challenge.
Challenge it was! Whites and folds in fabric are always difficult because they take on surrounding colors. Drawing pleats and making sure Inwas in the correct t one was hard.
Then all of those tiny flowers! Ack! Wanted to shoot myself. I started off trying to keep track of where I was and then faked it.  it

Staying out of the comfort zone to learn new things. This was a strange perspective.

9  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Stones: a drawing on: August 09, 2019 06:19:45 PM
I've completed another challenge drawing for Colored Pencil Magazine. This was a lesson in patience and concentration. The smooth stones were relatively easy, but the stones with facets and striations were more difficult to pick out and keep track of.

Colored pencil magazine had a challenge once a month. This is their July challenge. I learned a lot drawing this picture.
