21  Hippie Apron Sundress Updated with action shots in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by stafishtaylz on: April 14, 2009 07:42:09 AM
My first attempt at childrens clothes

I'm having a beach wedding in July, and my niece is sort of the flower girl. She's 3. My sister has been looking for the perfect sundress for her but hasn't found one yet. I asked Kayla what color she wanted and she of course said pink. So, I decided to make one for her this morning. I can't wait to try it on her. Its basically just an apron top with a skirt off it. This was the first time I had made one. No tute, I just eyeballed it. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, but we'll see how a 3 year old feels about it!

22  Coffee Filter Roses UPDATED 4/8/09 With Final Wedding Bouquet in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by stafishtaylz on: February 23, 2009 10:08:15 AM
I'm planning a wedding this June, and I really would like to make my own bouquet, mixed media type. I was stumbling around craftster this morning looking for different ways to make flowers. Someone mentioned coffee filter roses, but I couldn't find any pictures. So, after some google research, Martha Stewart, and  trip to www.mommymakesroses.com, I found a great tutorial and video on how to do this.

I'm pretty happy with the results, but could use some more practice. I'm not entirely excited about the way the colors came out, but I used the water colors I had on hand. It doesn't look as real as I would like. Next time, I'll go shopping for just the right colors. Start to finish this rose took me about 2 hours. I didn't wait for dry time because I was too impatient. I used my hair dryer on low which worked well.

It was a bit tricky because I've neevr used florists tape before, and I thought it would be sticky...its not. Its got a waxy finish that sticks to itself for anyone who doesn't know (I didn't!).

Now...to start thinking about the colors I want for my wedding bouquet!!!

If anyone else makes these please feel free to post them here, I'd love to see your color creations.

Heres the finished product!

Attempt number 2! This one took me about a half hour less. I'm a bit happier with the gradiation of color. I was able to wrap it a bit better, but I think I wrapped it a bit too tight to get all the petals apart...oh well! I guess I'll hearn with each one!

Theres also a kit to make paper orchids...I might give it a try since I can't seem to keep the real ones alive...

Update: Number 3...I'm addicted!!! This one came together in about an hour. The forming, painting, and shaping gets easier every time. I think I'm going to use this particular one in my bouquet. We'll see what my mom thinks about the color.
Just made:

With first coat of paint:

UPDATE 3/5/09, I finshed these up this morning. I've been working on them on and off for about a week. These are the total of 7 coral ones for my actual bouquet. I have to decide which color to make next to mix in with them!

UPDATE 4/8/09, I've been working on these ochre colored ones for the past few days. They're much better than the coral ones as far as shaping and professionalism I think. But, now that they're all together in the bouquet they look fine. I think I'm done with it...maybe some greenery or ribbon or something...any suggestions???

23  Re: Clutch Handbag or Tote Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by stafishtaylz on: February 19, 2009 11:29:40 AM
Hooray from the mail coming on time for once!!!

I just got my package from jessbee21 today. It was very exciting as tensions have been high this past week. My finace and I decided to quickly plan a whole wedding for this June! Being that its so close we're both a bit edgy to say the least.

Without further ado, my awesome stuff from jess!

Everything was wrapped in really pretty purple ribbon with silver tissue!

A Thank you card from her, saying that she had a great time swapping with me and describing the contents of the package.

The shoulder bag, which I love! It has a magnetic snap.

And pockets on the inside.

A wristlet for my keys....a good thing too, I keep losing them!

A zipper pouch in poochie fabric...obviously a favorite of mine since I live and work at an animal shelter. The zipper is a bit stciky, but I guess it figures since I kind of messed up hers! Karma!

Inside it has all these tiny little pockets...they'd be perfect for my DS games.

Next, some extra pooch fabric, which I'm sure I'll use somewhere! And a little special occaision emergency kit for the wedding. Its got a lint remover, body tape, pins, scissors, sewing needles, thread, etc.

Inside the kit.

And lastly, one of my favorites...twizzlers...its already half gone...so much for my pre wedding diet!!!

Thanks Jess, this has been a great swap. I'm really glad you still love your bags...I plan to get good use out of mine.

As far as everyone else...sorry this was such a long posting...I got a little carried away with my package!

24  Re: Fall Scarf Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by stafishtaylz on: November 12, 2008 11:17:52 AM
Yay! Today at lunch I recieved an amazing package from t-dub. I don't know how she did it it, becoming a new mommy during this swap and all...

First, an owl wall hanging which she made all on her own. The embroidery is perfect! This one is going on the wall in my craft room!

Second, an organic market tote! Yay! She wanted to find a way to incorperate my new pup who became lost during this swap. He is now home and doing fine! I'm going to take this to my board meeting tonight for the animal shelter!

Third, this really beautiful jasmine green tea. I love the box and the name of the company! So creative! It smells great. I'm going to make a cup after I post!

Lastly, TWO hand made scarves! I love the colors in both! I think the black one I'll wear on Thanksgiving with a nice black sweater, and the blue one I'll reserve for puppy playtime out in the yard!

Thank you SO much t-dub! I love everything!!!!!

25  Re: Hippy Swap Round 2 - Hippy Happiness! in The Swap Gallery by stafishtaylz on: August 19, 2008 11:58:01 AM
AHH!!! WHOO HOO!!! I got home late from my 2nd job last night after a HORRIBLE weekend. And, after almost getting run over walking out to the mailbox in the dark, it was worth it because my swap package from 1boy1girl1kitty2 had arrived!!!!! She made some really great stuff and the quality is fantastic! My fiance jokingly said I wasn't getting anything in December because I just had Christmas in August...here is everything!
Pajama/Lounge Pants made from vintage sheets!!! I love these...I wish it was colder here...BUT they say tonight it may be in the 50s!!!

A pillow cover, the embroidery is beautiful!!! I wish I had the patience to try some...

Close up of embroidery...

A small photo book...I always wanted one of these for my bag to carry pictures of my pets...

An awesome courderoy and denim hand bag...big too...

A patchwork blue courderoy shoulder bag

And lastly a patchwork hand bag...

I totally love everything! This has been a great swap and I'm soo glad to have had such a talented partner!!! WHOO HOO!!!

I'm going to be posting the skirt I made for 1boy1girl1kitty2 here because she wore it today and one of her little ones fought her for tylenol this morning and she's washing it to get the stain out. SO...that being said, here it is! She'll be posting the rest to follow.

I'm sooo glad she likes it and is already wearing it! It was my first ever skirt and machine applique. I added a drawstring to the waist after I shot these. The brown and white a courderoy and the brown has a pattern stamped into it.

27  Courderoy-Hippie-Patchwork-Tree Applique-Skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by stafishtaylz on: July 24, 2008 05:31:21 AM
Yay! I can finally post this since my swap partner has recieved. This skirt was made for and sent to 1boy1girl1kitty2 who was my partner in the Hippy Swap. She loves greens and browns and natural things so I figured this was perfect! I saw an applique skirt online and it was definatly my inspiration for this skirt. This is the first skirt I've ever done, and my first machine applique. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Its not shown here, but I did put a drawstring in the waist.

28  Owl Applique/Reconstructed Tote Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by stafishtaylz on: July 17, 2008 02:49:19 PM
I've bee sick for the past few days and going stir crazy. I figured why not tackle two birds with one stone.

I made a quilt for my friend Ashley several years ago. Well, it wasn't really a quilt, it was a quilt top sewn to a comforter so it would be really thick. Last summer she took it to a festival with her and it was accidentally set on fire. It had a huge burn mark in the middle. I didn't think I'd be able to do much to fix it, so we ripped the top off the comforter and its been sitting in my sewing room ever since. Ashleys birthday was also last month and I kind of forgot about it.

SO, back to the two birds, I decided to make her a handbag as a belated gift. As I started putting the pattern together I remembered the quilt. Ashley took that thing with her everywhere like Linus from Charlie Brown. Thats when I came up with the idea to use the fabric from the burned up quilt to make the handbag.

Sorry about the long story, but I just thought it was the greatest idea. SO without further ado, heres the tote!

Cutting the pieces:

Close up of the applique (my new thing):

All finished (the tote is lined with the pink belly fabric):

30  Re: Lap Quilt Swap II: Summer GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by stafishtaylz on: July 15, 2008 06:33:56 AM
Okay here it is! All my blocks together, not yet placed in any particular order. I'm not sure if I want sashing, borders, etc. Any ideas would be helpful. I was originally thinking about a pieced border, but I'm wondering if its going to be too busy and I should do a solid? Maybe a washed out green? blue? yellow???
