1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Having trouble visioning finished project... on: February 23, 2011 07:10:28 PM
I am having a terrible time envisioning my finished project!! I have just started knitting something similar to this necklace that I found on ravelry:

only I want to do it all in white and with no "cord" in between each bead, to get a sort of pearl necklace effect. Planning on making it long enough to loop two or three times, and doing the cord along the back of the neck to reduce the bulkiness of it all.
I just can't envision if the finished project will actually look like a giant pearl necklace or just a lumpy bumpy mess?? Any advice??
2  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Science themed fabric online? on: September 25, 2010 12:37:39 PM
Has anyone seen science themed (beakers, atoms, microscopes, etc) fabrics online? I can never seem to find anything at my local Joanns or Hancocks, and I tried looking online but the closest thing I found were "educational" prints like letters and numbers ):
3  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / Embroidery hoop & Modge Podge?? on: March 24, 2009 01:46:00 PM
So I heard about this method a few days ago of using an embroidery hoop and modge podge to create a screen.... but can you use each screen more than once?? I have heard that modge podge gets sticky/gummy when it gets wet, so how would you clean the screen?? thanks!! (sorry if this has been answered, I looked through a few pages of this section)
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Baby Quilt/Play Mat on: March 24, 2009 01:11:34 PM
This is the first quilt I've done on my own, I made one like 6 years ago in highschool sewing class (pink monstrosity of a thing), and a flannel quilt like 5 years ago with my aunts help(also pink, but much better). My best friend C and her husband N found out about a month ago that they're having a baby girl, L. I decided to make this out of black, white, and red, so that 1. it's visually stimulating to a baby, 2. they could also use it for future babies, and 3. because I didn't know how they were going to decorate the nursery (I do now! Butterflies Grin. Already have the fabric to make another quilt). it's mostly quilters cotton (100 5"x5" squares (before seam allowance)), but the solid squares are black-corduroy, white- minky with a stripe and red-minky with dots. It's bordered in a 3" (pre seam allowance) red minky border, backed in red flannel (which angered me because it had three pencil eraser sized holes which of course I didn't see at the fabric store and ended up appliqueing small stars over), and yarn tied because I didn't want to risk actually quilting it with my small sewing machine. There are 12 small red ribbon loops to attach toys to (if I were smart, I would have sewed these in between the squares, but they're tied with the yarn super tight). I tried to make a bias tape binding out of the scraps from the squares, which was sooo hard to sew on, the back doesn't look as good as the front, and even the front isn't the best. My favorite fabric has to be the zebra print. C's supposed to be recieving it in the mail today.... Can't wait to hear her reaction!! I think thats all.... C&C much appreciated!!

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / what to knit with t-shirt yarn?? on: February 10, 2009 08:53:10 PM
I have a small ball of t-shirt yarn, made from three pink tees, different shades. the strips are 1/2 an inch wide, but shrink a little when you pull it. I knitted a test swatch with size 10 needles (the biggest I have) and it's just so stiff!! I thought I'd make a scarf, but I like them soft and easily folded. I want to make more t-shirt yarn to use up all the old tees I dont wear but just cant make myself send to goodwill, but what could I make it into?? I thought about a bag, since it would hold the shape.... but I just don't know...
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knit Digestive System... on: November 08, 2008 08:33:26 PM

has anyone done this recently?? I saw the knit-a-long on it, but the date was a few years ago. was wondering if anyone had pointers....??
I want to make one for my mom, she's a nurse and she is starting a new job on Tuesday at a gastro-intestinal specialty unit. I am also planning on making the gallbladder either magnetic or velcroed, so it can be removed like her's was two years ago....

Thanks!! Grin
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / princess ribbon hair clips on: March 31, 2008 11:15:21 PM
Anyone have free directions for these (Disney) princess hair clips like I've seen on esty?? I dont want to mass produce and sell them, I just want to make a few for my younger cousins and a little girl I nanny for. If anyone's interested in sharing, I'm specifically interested in the Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Belle (especially her hair!). I really need help with the measurements, before I go out and buy too much or not enough supplies. I could probably figure out the little details with trial and error. Also, what do you use to stop the ribbons from fraying??

(*sorry for the small pictures!!*)
8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / not really crafty... but I thought I'd ask... on: March 16, 2008 09:07:26 PM
I think I'm doing something wrong when I paint my nails. I can never get the stuff to not smudge! I've tried different brands, the topcoats that "make your nail polish last", stuff that makes the color chip-proof, salon brands, cheepie wallmart brands. I let it dry up to 30 min between each coat, I've tried drying it with my hairdryer, but nothing works. I can just smudge it off with my fingers, even lightly. I know this stuff isn't permanent, but I'd like it to last for a few days. I'm about ready to coat it the next time with a layer of Mod Podge, seeing as it's the only thing I haven't tried... any help??
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Bridal Shower with no games?? on: March 11, 2008 05:19:20 PM
Now no one reaaaally likes Bridal Shower games, but you have to have them, right? I'm planning a Bridal Shower for my friend getting married July 12th, and I'm trying to get things started/planned early. She really doesn't want to have games, but I dont know how else to occupy the time. I'm thinking of a Hollywood glamour/ Audrey Hepburn "Breakfast at Tiffany's" party, white and light blue themed breakfast with champagne. I can't just let people eat and then open gifts? I'm thinking of supplying long black gloves and faux pearls for people to wear, then satin eye masks like the movie as a favor... what else could I include for favors and things to do during the party??
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / first re-conned jewelry... pretty tame on: January 30, 2008 10:33:34 AM
these are made out of old Barbie food... a steak and a shrimp. totally surf n turf

these are just a hamburger and a hotdog.

these next ones are made of plastic rings that came on top of cupcakes, they're Mater from Cars, I origionally made them for a friend who is obsessed with Mater, then I remembered she has her ears guaged now.... maybe I'll make one into a necklace or something...

These Barbie earrings were origionally cupcake toppers, the pink hearts spun inside the darker heart frame... but they dont now... they're surprisingly lightweight

these last ones were also cupcake toppers... I used to work in a bakery.
they're glass slippers!!

The Chanel logo was a zipper pull on a knock off purse  I got for only $5. I added a pink sparkely bead and a silver chain with a toggle clasp. I wear it quite alot actually.
