1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Mod-esque capelet from oversize sweatshirt (somewhat img heavy) on: December 14, 2008 12:04:43 AM
This is the cutest thing I've ever seen!! I love that you made it from a sweatshirt. Amazing Smiley
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / For people biking in the rain! 20 min back pack rain shield from old pants on: October 16, 2008 05:43:46 PM
So it was supposed to rain the other day and I had my rain pants and rain coat, but nothing to keep my bag from getting soaked on my ride to work.....the stores were all closed so I needed to improvise. I remembered some old army-issue rainpants I bought a year ago that were so not breathable, so I never really wore them. I laid them out and came up with this:

I couldn't be happier!! each leg made one pack cover.

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / sweatshirt to skirt - tute added! on: October 13, 2008 12:21:41 PM
I think there was a post on here that I saw and got this idea from, but it was suuuper simple.

Oh and this picture is lame, but I'm no good at the whole timer shot thing.

I love that it has pockets. I like pockets

So here's how I did it. the bottom of the sweatshirt ends up being the waist of the skirt. You could also do it the other way around, but I liked the way the pockets were this way.

4  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Ultra blonde hair... gone a little wrong.. on: July 22, 2008 09:19:43 AM
yeah, I went vivid red once....the only way I got rid of it was having someone dye my hair back to it's original color, then I just had to let it grow out.

One thing about bleaching any shade of hair is that your scalp generates heat, so your roots will get more heat than the ends of your hair. The general rule when bleaching hair is to put the bleach on the roots last. When making such a drastic change it's best to have another set of eyes to check the color of your hair in different places.

If you already had dye on your hair that can cause issues with bleaching too.

you just need to get a toner to counter act the orange. they should have toner at a beauty supply store. If you go to a salon tell them to use a violet based toner. because your hair is naturally dark you may also want to get a purple shampoo....sounds weird, but that will keep the blond from going brassy. I have black hair naturally and have gone almost white blond using bleach and then toner. for the toner you will only want to use 10 volume developer (bleach). The toner box should give you the measurements of developer to toner.

you NEED to keep an eye on toner though. it can take as little as 5 minutes to neutralize the orange, so spot checking every 5 mins is a must or your blond will turn slightly silvery.

honestly if you can get your hands on the toner and developer I would do that rather than pay a ton of money for some stylist to mess it up or burn your hair off.

I'm a stylist and I used to work in NYC at one of the top salons.

doing the toner is SO easy....if you have any questions or want more info feel free to PM me.

Ive actually been thinking of going blond again......it's so fun!

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Mary Jane slippers from scraps! - TUTE ADDED! on: January 17, 2008 11:29:18 AM
For the sole, while I've not tried it myself, on another slipper thread a lot of people mentioned puff paint.   Just paint some on the bottom and they said it makes them non-skid.

that is an awesome idea Smiley

I think I'll add it to the pair in the picture as I've already "ice skated" a bit in the bathroom!
