31  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Make and Take for a Spa Party? on: August 21, 2007 09:47:53 AM
I'm an event planner for the student activities council at my university and we want to plan a spa party for the students. Right now we're planning to bring in someone to do facials and manicures and have refreshments and things, but I want to have some make it and take it stations.

Because it's going to be in a large room that's normally used as an art gallery and for speakers and things, there isn't a lot of table space and outlets so we were looking for things that either don't have to be heated for long or don't have to be heated at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what we could have? A friend told suggested maybe salt and sugar scrubs and buying unscented lotion and letting people add their own fragrance. Is there anything else that would be easy to do?

33  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Corset Tops? on: August 21, 2007 02:04:38 AM
I was at Torrid in Las Vegas in May and found this really adorable corset top by Tripp. Unfortunately, it was WAY more than I could afford. So I waited until it went on clearance online. Then they didn't have my size in the color I wanted. So I'm trying to figure out how to make my own.

A friend of mine told me to make a corset and attach a shirt under it, but I want something a little more seamless.
This is the top I wanted.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could create something similar? I want the boning, so all of the corset top patterns I've found wouldn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated. School just started again and I'd like to make something new to wear. (Especially since there's this cute guy in one of my English classes. LoL.)
34  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Why offering a range of sizes is important! on: August 21, 2007 12:51:32 AM
A friend of mine makes aprons for her church bazaar every year and although they're really cute, they don't sell well because she tends to make them so that they'll fit her (and she's a tiny little thing.) This year an older church member came up to her and told her that if she wasn't going to make larger sizes, they appreciate her donation, but she doesn't need to donate next year so they have room for aprons that are a larger size or more adjustable. It was a little rude but I can see where she was coming from.
I've often visited craft fairs and found something that I really liked but wasn't anywhere near my size. Sometimes I do ask if they would be able to custom make me the item in my size, but I got tired of them telling me it would be anywhere from $10 - $15 more because they had to adjust the patterns.
When I do see someone with items in my size or are willing to make the item custom for me without charging me an arm and a leg more, I'm much more willing to stay and look and, nine times out of ten, buy something.

That bag is adorable! One of my friends loves Hello Kitty and would fall off her chair if I showed her that!
