1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Anyone use a rotary blade sharpener? on: July 19, 2008 10:27:43 PM
I always buy mine at Michaels in their small selection of sewing accessories.  They come in a 3 pack for about $4.00, and they will take the JoAnn's 40% off coupon.  I love changing blades after I've been using a dull one for cutting.  I always ask myself why I was torturing myself for so long when they are so cheap.  I haven't used a sharpener, but I would love to hear from some more people who have.

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Pink flowered apron on: June 23, 2008 10:19:09 PM
I have been seeing aprons from vintage sheets around blogland. I'm not a big fan of the 1960's green and yellow, so I found a sheet with pink, red, and blue flowers. I would love to have a red kitchen, and I am slowly moving that direction.

I found the sheet as part of a twin set at an estate sale a few weeks ago. The girls could use a few more twin fitted sheets, so I picked it up and I thought it was just one piece for $2.00. It was worth it because it was a nice quality sheet. When I got to the cash box, I found out it was 50% off, so only $1.00. When I got it home, there was a flat sheet also. The sheet had a blue stripe with flowers and a smaller red stripe on the top of the sheet. The stripe made perfect pockets.

Way cute.  I love the ribbon around the neck and the super cute fabric.

So cute - both the dress and the girl.  Great job.  I love the fabrics you used.

I made two matching aprons from fabric I bought at a yard sale.  I got 3 yards for $2.  I made two reversible aprons and have a little bit left over.  I think I will make these for my nieces for Christmas out of another 3 yard piece I bought at the same sale.  Thanks for looking.

9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Please help me with my stitch problem! on: June 07, 2008 10:16:49 PM
When you are threading your machine, you should make sure your presser foot is in the upright position, and when threading your needle, it should be down.  If it is in the wrong position, the thread does not go in between the tension discs like it's supposed to.

I have also had a similar problem when I used a super cheap thread.  I don't need the most expensive thread, but my machine really does not like the $1/spool thread.

Let us know how things work out.
10  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Marking quilts on: November 12, 2007 03:15:43 PM
I was wondering if you mark your quilts before or after you baste them.  Also, what do you use for marking?  I have tried several different products and still haven't found one I like (except for the leftover bar soap -- but that only works on darks).
