21  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Joanne Sale This Weekend! on: May 20, 2008 09:53:43 AM
Don't forget, Joannes is having a sale this weekend, and if you get the flyer, there is a coupon for an extra 10% off the whole purchase, sale items included. I also saw that they have quilting notions for 50% off, so with the extra coupon it makes it a cha-ching event. I know where I will be this weekend...........
22  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / 6 1/2" Signature Block Swap #2 on: May 20, 2008 09:28:35 AM
For any quilters who might be interested in a follow-up to the nine-patch swap I have proposed, consider this block, called a signature block. If enough interest is shown, swappers could end up with a nice collection of little blocks to make a friendship quilt. With these siggy blocks, swap would be one-for- one, with a person being able to swap up to twelve blocks, since I would limit the group size to twelve. You would be able to decide how many people you wanted to swap with when you sign up. I would propose to begin sign-ups on july 1st, and have send outs by July 31 st. If there is enough interest, I would try to do one block swap per month for a year or so.

This pattern is from Quilter's Cache, and would be the one we use for this swap.

23  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / 6 1/2'' 9-Patch Block Swap on: May 19, 2008 09:46:59 AM
O.K. Quilters, who might be up for this?
This swap would be for a set of six, 6 1/2" Nine-patch quilt blocks. The blocks would be scrappy and 4 of the nine patches would be print or color fabric, five of the patches would be white muslin. Must be made of prewashed cotton. There are many, many resources and patterns on the web that teach the technique of making this block, and it can be made by hand or machine. This block also looks very nice set on point and alternated with plain blocks. Sign-ups will start June 1,  send outs by June 30th, and this swap will be limited to twelve particiapants, including me, the organizer. Post here, and pm me if you are interested. Thanks, Linda
24  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Fabric Artist's / Quilter's Inchie Swap? (plus-sized inchies) on: January 06, 2008 10:25:04 AM
Two events coincided to give me this idea. There is a current inchie swap going on that seems to be very popular among the paper arts type folk. I also recently read an article in the August/September issue of Quilting Arts , (issue #28) by Normajean Brevik, that explores "inchie mania" among the Art Quilting community. I would love to swap some of my fabric inchies with like-minded people. I found some nice examples of fabric inchies on the web:

http://foxyartstudio.blogspot.com/2007/10/fabric-inchies.html

http://www.quiltingarts.com/qamag/online_extra/inchiemania.html

These inchies are often more like 1 1/4'' to 1 1/2'', sometimes owing to edge embellishments and other considerations. Also, these inchies are bound at the edges on some manner, so they are durable and will not ravel. If you would be interested in a swap like this, please let me know. Sign-ups might start in late February or early March, depending on interest.

27  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Cherry Blossom Time Swap? on: December 15, 2007 09:32:35 AM
Would anyone be interested in doing a sakura or cherry blossom themed swap in 2008? I'll soon be able to host swaps, and would like to start small, and with one of my favorite subjects. I think I would probably limit this swap to 12 people, and we could always do another one if it goes well and if there is a demand.
28  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Inspired Owl on: December 13, 2007 09:43:05 AM
Here is an owl I made, it was inspired by the owls made by wibit , although I did not follow her pattern. Thanks wibit!

He's shy , and likes to hide in plants.

He is made of various colors of wool-ease, safety eyes, and polystuffing, using the standard principles of amigurumi.
29  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / News Flash! Totoro Found Rummaging In Woman's Yarn Bag! on: December 10, 2007 04:09:13 PM
I just want to warn everyone that several Totoro have been making random attacks on the yarn bags of private, upstanding citizens. Please don't panick, just toss them a few acorns, and they will eventually leave.

30  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / The Devil You Know.......... a hat for dad on: December 04, 2007 11:05:24 AM

This is a hat I made for my dad for the holidays, he is follicularly challenged, so his head gets cold easily. I didn't use a pattern, but was inspired by all the silly hats I have seen on Craftster, so I credit all the hat makers for inspiration. I used Lion wool-ease for the main color, with a little knit picks red merino wool for the horns.
