1  Mixed Media Illustration Art Cards in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Tigerfeet on: June 04, 2014 03:32:11 PM
So. I've been pushing through depression and recently started to make things - and more important for sanity, finish things. I need to remind myself sometimes that the things I create are not, actually, terrible and I should do more.

This was a card for two of my husband's workmates who recently had another daughter. All I knew was she was called Pixie.

The main image of the little girl was sketched and then outlined in technical markers, coloured with water-colour paints and some soft shading added with chalk pastels. Ghiant sealant applied. The wings were a sheet of sealed laminate drawn on with an OHP permanent marker, coloured with glittery fabric glue, accented with Swarovski crystals.

Next was a commission from my mother-in-law, a retirement card for a workmate. Purple butterflies was the theme, and after a bit of prodding I found out the lady in question also enjoyed gardening.

Halfway through inking:

Partway through colouring:

Technical pens for inking. Colour was mostly glitter gel pens mixed with water, metallic paint markers, and chalk pastels. Painting was done using the tiniest detail brush and it still smudged a little in places. Swarovski crystal accents and some floral edging completed it.

My latest card was for an aunty's 50th birthday.

I was ready to throw this away halfway through inking. It was too stylized, the dogs looked wrong, and I cocked up some lines of the glass. Glitter came to the rescue - although I did plan on doing it initially, too. Pearlized cardstock, PVA glue with fine glitter sprinkled over, gold gel pen, glitter gel pen, metallic pencils and plain coloured pencils, finished off with (yes!) Swarovski crystals and some peel offs. The peel offs saved my life. I was tired of this card, even though objectively it took the least time.  Roll Eyes

Not sure this is properly 'art' but they are all hand-drawn one offs. Hopefully I can keep creating through the rough patches this time round.

2  Sparkly kusudama in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Tigerfeet on: December 14, 2009 11:01:19 AM
Made using Folding Trees' tutorial. I'm suffering badly with a stress-depression combo, so the repetitious actions of folding each petal was a soothing therapy for me. And I do so love pretty things.

Ingredients: Notepaper squares, glue (oh so much glue), split-pin paper fasteners and drawing pins, craft string, glitter, random beads -  all from my stationery drawer apart from the beads, which came from my jewellery stash. I'm going to use this one as a Christmas decoration.

3  A Frame for the Fridge in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Tigerfeet on: August 26, 2009 01:00:08 PM
So, I have a stack of these old magnetic cards (just like the magnetic business cards, but bigger) from an ill fated business venture. I decided that instead of having them mouldering in a drawer, they could be repurposed into something pretty and useful. So, I broke out my stash and, after some paper, glue, swarovski crystals and sticky fingers, here's my first attempt!

The before:

Action shot! (sorry for the bad lighting and my scaffy radiator...)

This is juuust cute enough to hold a picture of my adorable cat, so my Mum can have a picture of her 'grand-kitten' on the fridge. Thanks for looking - C&C very welcome!

4  Zen-thingies in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Tigerfeet on: July 11, 2009 01:39:51 PM
I discovered these tonight and I am having so much fun, it's almost criminal.

First try!

Second try!

The second one's maybe a bit too representational to be properly zen. But whatevs. I'm going to use these for the journal I'm making for my sister, because they turned out a lot cuter than I thought they would!

ETA: Third Zendala!
