771  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / baby blanket on: January 29, 2008 07:56:08 AM
So this is not anything super exciting or creative, but I did like the way it turned out.  This blanket was made for a friend's baby ( I was only four months late in getting it to her).
I wanted to do blue, but not too much baby blue.  I ended up liking the colors a lot.
I used Caron simply soft, and a cluster pattern...it was very heavy when it was finished so I knew it would be warm.  She lives 'up north' so it gets pretty cold.

And this is how I sent it to her...now I know this isn't a new idea but I didn't have ribbon and in about 2 minutes I had a great way to tie it up!!!

This is beautiful.  There is nothing more to say.
773  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Re: Quilled elephant head project on: January 26, 2008 05:20:26 PM
Very cool.  I love the design.  I love to quill but I can not for the life of me quill without the slotted tool.  It looks like you don't use anything?  I've tried but mine just won't come out even!  I love the look of no holes in the middle...I'm going to have to keep trying.

A couple people have asked how long this took.  I didn't keep track.  Rolling the paper takes the longest, I would say I spent a couple of hours each night for about a week rolling...then probably about 2 hours gluing it down?  I really don't know.  If I had to guess I would say about 15 hours once I knew my design.

HSG-thank you for the very kind words.  It does take some amount of time, but it isn't hard at all.  Believe it or not, this one one of the first things I quilled after a bunch of practicing how to roll the paper.  Like anything quilling can get to be complicated, but just the very basic rolling techniques were used in this, nothing fancy.  Again thanks for the nice remarks, it brightens my day Smiley

I'm addicted to advent calendars...opening little doors everyday to find a surprise...I think I could have one for each month!  Great job.

This is an incredible piece of art. It is so smart and what a treasure to have.

Do you happen to have a closer photo of the overall piece? It would be nice to see it from the front.

Rockin'! Smiley

Here are two more pictures...the first one is before I put the 'sky' paper under the velum...

and the second one you can see the hidden heart I mention in the first post. (near Rick toward the bottom of the leaves).  I didn't have a closer pic of the overall piece, so I zoomed in. I hope these are what you wanted to see! This is my favorite I've done, I'm getting ready to do another for a friend, and then I will do one for myself one day!!!

779  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 30 on: January 20, 2008 08:24:35 AM
I claim poerava for softies, animals.
This is my first claim- so zero received.

Hi!  This is my first time in a swap and I'm finding it difficult to come up with things that I want.  I'm not used to being able to say that I want something and poof it appears:)

I'm 31 years old, I'm a stay at home mom of two.  I love making gifts for people instead of buying them (even though they usually turn out to be more expensive) and most of my crafty items are given away as presents so I don't have many of my own and would love to start getting crafty items from others!  In general I don't like bright colors, neon and such.  My house is pretty neutral shades of green, brown, tan, blue.  I am pretty simple...I only wear my wedding ring as jewelry and I can only wear gold earrings which I don't like very much (white gold is good but expensive ) so I usually don't even wear earrings.

1.  I like anything small....miniature anything makes me smile.

2.  Magnets.  I love these http://junkyloveinfreehand.blogspot.com/2007/10/glass-marble-magnets.html

3.  Wall art- any medium I just love original stuff.  When I was about 7 I made a promise to myself never to hang anything on my walls that I could go into someone else's house and see.  Which is why my wall are basically bare.  Who has time to make everything!  But, anything framed or on canvas is wonderful.  My craft room is Brown and light brown, with dark red and white accents.

4.  handmade cards.  I love sending cards.

5.  mosaics  Love mosaics.

6.  Children's books.  Love the classics for the art.

7.  Paper.  I love any kind of paper...I don't scrap book but I love the paper...I do other things with it...it is just so pretty.

I know this isn't a big list, but I'm sure it will grow as I keep on swapping.  Thanks so much:)
780  COOKING / Dessert / Re: I think I like to decorate cakes on: January 17, 2008 09:05:43 AM
Oooooooooooooh how cute!
I made a Thomas cake something like yours back when my son was little - he'll be 20 this year!  Shocked  (And he still secretly loves Thomas. Cheesy)

Thomas is a great obsession at our house.  My son who is four has gotten the whole family involved.  His latest thing is calling me the OLD SLOW COACH.  This I do not appreciate.  I know he will still love trains when he is 20.

And to lil_abi:  I would have cried!
