31  Re: Ongoing Children's Wish Swap Round 1 Gallery of Goodness in The Swap Gallery by summertimerolls on: October 03, 2008 08:26:04 AM
my kids received a great package from igobylorib

My daughter received a princess wand
My son received a cape.

They are both loved.  My daughter was in school when I took the pictures so I don't have an action shot of her.  Also, her first magic spell was to make my mom quit smoking.  Pretty heavy for a seven year old.

Thanks so much.

my daughter received some great hair bows from CJKJ.  She has very thick hair and CJKJ used huge barrettes which is what she needs, I can actually get her hair to stay with these!  Thanks CJKJ.  Sorry it took a while to post.  And yes, If you have better pictures please post.

She also sent a baggie of craft supplies in which the kids immediately made these pictures.

Chicomich has received hers but hasn't posted pictures.  I finished mine so I thought I would post pictures of mine.
I made a cherry tree inside of a shadow box.  The trunk is sculpey, the branches are twigs from my back yard, and the blossoms are quilled...or rolled paper.

34  STOLEN- Ugly dolls in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by summertimerolls on: September 03, 2008 10:14:04 AM
Ummmm, yeah.  I totally stole these from two places.  The idea to copy them wasn't even mine, so I really deserve NO credit, but they are so cute I had to share.  The first place I stole them from was Jinkies...she has a link in one of her wishlists:
Then of course I just copies straight from Ugly Dolls b/c I decided pretty much to have to NO creativity on my own on these.  So what is the policy when something like this happens?  I'm not selling at all, just made some for a swap.
I made two for each swapper.

Everything is so great so far.  I am sad to say I'm just now catching up with the gallery.  But people are really sending great stuff!

I received mine from Chicomich.  Fabulous place mats in the perfect colors for my dinning room.  I love them.  I really mean it.  I would have picked exactly these for my house.  I'm now second guessing that my little cherry tree isn't enough to match these.  Thank you so much, you did a wonderful job.

I received from Mommythemaid today.  She claimed me for cuddle cups for my guinea pigs.  In June we rescued two guinea pigs, well technically we adopted them, a lady here in town rescued them.  Anyway, we gave these little guys a new home and Mommythemaid has now given them comfy beds!  Thanks so much, they are just perfect!  And they immediately went to lazing around in them.  The kids named the pigs Jack Henry and Jeffrey Frank.  I think that is hysterical because I expected fluffy or teddy or brownie...but they came up with these names from people they knew.

anyway, MTM did a great job and Jack and Jeffrey thank her very much.

okay, I don't have pictures, I will post those sometime tomorrow b/c the kids are in bed right now, but we received our package from kianee today.  First off, Tons and Tons (serious probably a pound or two )of the good stuff.  Chocolate!  It did melt, but none of the packages leaked, not one drop.  Which is pretty amazing since it was soupy and not everything was in plastic but in paper wrappers!  But 15 in the fridge and it was good to go---right into our bellies!

Then she sent snoodies for the kids.  So cute.  They didn't know quite what to do with them at first, but they figured it out!  They will probably be kept in the van, that way when it is raining and they both think they will melt b/c Grammy has told them they (the kids) are made out of sugar (yep, from the south), the little boogers won't have to get their heads wet.

Oh, we're not even done yet....then she carved and sent awesome stamps.  A karate girl for Liv and a train for Ben.  Perfect.  They stamped an entire post it note pad with images and put them everywhere in the house.
Thanks so much, you are too kind.  I should also state that this cost a small fortune to send to us, so you deserve a treat!

Okay, photos are going slow.  But here are the scoodies:  The stamps will have to be after the kids clean their rooms and find them for me.  I don't enter their rooms until they are clean!

Olivia holding about half the chocolate and wearing her snood.  When we opened it we just laughed b/c that is one of my FAVORITE Ikea fabrics and she always goes with me to Ikea to buy it.

Ben's snood missing Ben.  He is sick today and not in the mood for a photo shoot.  His has a train embroidered on the side...very cool!

Thanks and I'll add pictures of the stamps which are way cool too.

38  mosaic table tops in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by summertimerolls on: August 25, 2008 10:03:56 PM
So I posted my in progress pictures in the ceramics thread but now that they are finished and will go outside I thought I would post them here.  Plus the in progress pictures are pretty boring.

My son broke two of my mother's prefab ugly mosaic tables on ask-a-dent as my son says.  I replaced them with these.  She has a water garden outside, thus Lily and Fish.  Oh, she has 3 more tables that she says she just may have to break.  They aren't in the tables yet b/c the grout hasn't been sealed.  But the tables are black metal table frames that you can set these into the top.

Thanks for looking!

39  mosaic table top WIP in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by summertimerolls on: August 13, 2008 07:33:24 PM
Hi.  This is my first real try at mosaic.  I've already learned a few things:

1. I hate ceramic tile.  It is gritty and I can't stand touching or nipping it.

2. Just because I can draw and color a realistic waterlily doesn't mean that I can transfer it to a 16" square and use 1 color of tile and make it look just as good as my cute little drawing.

3. Ask for help.

4.  Fiberglass raw edges will EAT YOUR SKIN UP!
5.  Don't make crafts for people you are bitter with.  You then do not care if your mosaic looks crappy.
This is the story:
My son broke 2 of my mom's outside cheap side tables.  The kind with prefab slab of mosaic tile in the top.  Yep, two.  I guess he thought they were ugly too.

My mom wanted something more interesting.

My Dad doubted that I could measure a base correctly so he cut me some bases out of fiberglass s/crap he had at work.  Neglecting to tape off the raw edges my arms now look like hamburger due to rubbing it.  Don't worry, I taped them.
Thanks for the help Dad; I never did learn how to use a tape measure. Tongue

So, I now need to make two replacement tops.  I'm enjoying the learning process, but I need lots of feedback along the way.

Pictures are now out of order-sorry.

Well, I'm hoping a new picture will show up so I'm listing this out of order now.  But here is where I am, I've glued down all pieces and I will grout in gray.  I'm choosing that color b/c I feel it is the most neutral and I already have some  Grin
I like the fish the best.  I wish I would have just done two of those, but we'll see how the flower turns out...I can always make another fish.  I liked the tile I used better on the fish, not shiny.  Plus he's a simple shape and I think that worked better.

I've been working slowly, but here is some more.  The blue isn't glued down, but that will be the color.  Also, the spaces in the middle will be filled with yellow beads to look like stamen?  I think that is what they are called. And HSG- the mosaic will fit down in a table frame.  I plan on leaving a little space around the edge and grouting and beveling the edge just a little.

Here is my first WIP picture.  ALL feedback is welcome.

40  Re: One for Me, One for You Swap sendouts 9/2 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by summertimerolls on: August 13, 2008 07:10:34 PM
I know there is a gallery, but this isn't a finished project more of a 'this is where I am' discussion, so I hope it is ok to post a picture here.

I have finished rolling the 200ish 'petals' and have begun to assemble the cherry blossoms. The centers are hand fringed 2mm wide paper and the petals are 1mm thick and about 3mm wide.  I've been wondering why my eyesight has been getting worse over the last few months, and it finally dawned on me.
