Fabrics rec'd from:

Blocks rec'd from

Blocks sent to

Blocks made:
Here are my latest three.  I think I'm waiting on one more package of fabric.

FIRST- this is more of a confession than an update.  I messed up big time on our wonderful organizer's block and went through 1 and a half very VERY unsuccessful blocks.  I ended up making a simple nine patch b/c at that time I was running out of fabric and wasn't about to cut one more triangle that my machine was eating the corners of.    I'm very sorry.  This block technically meets the  standards, but I'm not proud of it.

And for Marmish I used 'woven ribbon' pattern.  I felt it was Christmas'y'.  I like the pattern so much though, it seems more my level, I'm going to make a few more like this one.

j_q_adams block

Here is the block for SimplySandy-it is a version of the ohio star

I've finished Ritapizza's block.  My picture is a bit washed out and the pink and white look almost the same-it looks a little better in person.  I had a HARD time with this one for some reason.

And after my problems with Rita's block I had to go simple with the next one.  Shout4joys block is called 'chain' on quilterscache.com.  I like this one even though it is really simple.

Ok, so I received gingerquilts fabric yesterday and decided to make her square this morning instead of going to the gym-shame on me.  Anyway, here is gingerquilts square, called greekcross

And this is one I tried with my fabric.  I have a little square that isn't quite straight, that I tried to fix but I don't have a picture of it.

Here is my fabric- I still have to cut it, I'll do that tonight.  The final project will go in my family room, which has tan walls with a dark blue accent wall and leather furniture. And we have some red accent pieces in there as well. What do you think?

2  My quest is completed- two I spy quilts finished in Quilting: Completed Projects by summertimerolls on: August 11, 2009 10:47:40 AM
Done.  Finished.  Completed.

Some of you may have read my post when I finished my son's quilt.  But, that was only half the project, now they are both completed.  Two twin size I spy quilts.    It was a long project.  One that when I started I really couldn't see me finishing, but in less than a year, I got it done.  Cutting was the longest part, and then I had to take big breaks from working on them for various reasons, but all in all I got them done in about 9 months.  I had never quilted anything before and I had never put a binding on anything.  There are a ton of mistakes, but I love them, the kids LOVE them and I'm pretty proud I actually finished.  Here is a quick run down of the facts.

Both quilts:
1728  2in. squares hand fussy cut Each quilt has 864 different 2 in squares.  No repeats in the same quilt.  If they put them side by side they can find matches...there are about 500 matches.
Machine pieced and quilted- 'as you go' style and in the ditch.
half of all the black sashing and the binding is sewn by hand.  One side machine stitched, one side hand stitched...it has to happen that way.
The kids picked the backing fabrics and since it is a 'quilt as you go' the quilt is actually two quilts in one.  Hope you enjoy.

this is one of my favorite blocks.  I drew the "I love you" hand.

And in this block I drew a square of our dog 'sprite'.

3  Karate girl trophy in Completed Projects by summertimerolls on: June 20, 2009 10:41:26 PM
This is silly, but I thought funny so I had to post.  My daughter, 8 yrs. old, is very passionate about karate.  She just competed this Saturday and once again was awarded a first place trophy with a boy on the top.  The silly thing is, they have girls divisions, so they know there will be a girl winner and they never order girl trophies.  So we put a wig on hers.  I was so proud of her, she won 1st for forms and 1st in sparring.  Here is one of our GIRL trophies.  From far away they are cute, but up close they look like a dude with a wig on.Smiley

4  I spy quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by summertimerolls on: June 03, 2009 10:04:24 AM
I am making two of these.  My son's is finished and my daughter's is almost there, but I couldn't wait to post pictures.
this is about 4x6'
Each of the 864 squares are different and fussy cut!
The quilt was put together using a quilt as you go method.
There are more mistakes than things I got right, but I love it anyway.  And more importantly so does my son.

My daughter's will be the same except with a pink back.
That is another 864 fussy cut squares...  Her's needs to be quilted and assembled, but the little squares are already cut and made into blocks.

close ups of some of the squares to ispy- we even have some hand painted one's in there like their birthdays.

5  quilled magnets. in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by summertimerolls on: May 22, 2009 08:32:20 PM
I made these for a magnet swap.  The roses are folded paper roses made from about 4 mm wide strips.  The little pot is a real terracotta one cut in half.  I made the frame out of balsa wood.  The whole thing is 3 inches tall.

The roses were hit with just a touch of gold paint

This is a tree made of simple coils and also slightly aged with gold paint.  Also 3in tall.

I had fun making these...hope you enjoy!

7  quilled water lily in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by summertimerolls on: May 10, 2009 05:43:55 PM
I had taken a picture of my mother's water garden last summer, so this year for mother's day I used that photo for inspiration when I needed to make her something.  The lily is quilled out of 3mm wide paper strips and the background is watercolor.  I have the quilling thing down pretty well, but I have never really learned how to paint.  I just grabbed my daughters crayola watercolor set and guessed.  I was happy with how it came out...so was she.  The first photo is it out of the frame b/c the glass was giving me a lot of grief.

this photo the glass shows a reflection of the actual pond.  The lilies aren't out this year yet:

this is the photo I used:

I would love to hear what you think!!

Yea!!!  I got my last ATC from Katara--all the way from south africa to OHIO, which I think is pretty cool.  This is cool and it completes out the swap so perfectly!

Thanks so much everyone!
