22  Four Freedoms Comfort Quilt in Crafty Charitable/Social Causes by funtobewith on: May 20, 2008 08:51:00 PM
Wow... I just can't say enough about these quilts... I didn't make this one, but I sure do hope to someday soon!!!  The process is just neat too... folks collect old jeans, cut them into 6" squares, have people write positive/supportive messages to the soldiers, the signed squares are collected and mixed up, and sent back out to quilters to make the quilts - then they are given to wounded warriors for their recovery.

I have been collecting jeans and cutting them, and have been at a couple signing events and saw a quilt in the beginning stages, layout and square formation... but I didn't get to see it finished!

This picture gives me goosebumps!!! Enjoy!

23  Re: "adopt me!" bandannas in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by funtobewith on: April 05, 2008 06:25:21 PM
Here are my two - made them for a friend who fosters dogs. Hope she likes them and that they work. They are double-sided, so reversable to not say "adopt me"  Thanks much for the idea!!!

25  TP Pumpkins - very cute and very easy! in Thanksgiving by funtobewith on: November 14, 2007 09:24:36 PM
I saw this the other night... I picked it up only to realize/feel the TP roll inside, the whole thing, not just the tube part... thought it was adorable... took it apart, made some notes, then surfed the net for directions... didn't find any here, so thought I'd share. If I weren't travelling for Thanksgiving I'd probably whip some up! Perfect for those non-crafters we know, or even kids who need an activity before or after eating on turkey day. I'd love to see what you come up with... the possibilities are endless!

Toilet Paper Pumpkins
1. Cut a piece of orange or brown fall fabric large enough to cover entire toilet paper tube with lots of extra.
2. Place toilet paper roll on the wrong side of the fabric swatch.
3. Wrap with polyfil stuffing to desired roundness.
4. Bring edges of fabric up and around the toilet paper tube and stuff into the top, creating lots of nice pleats.
5. Teacher can hot-glue the fabric in, but not necessary.
6. Cut an old toilet paper or paper towel tube lengthwise and roll up tightly to make a stem. Tape closed.
7. Wrap stem with green or brown fabric strips, ending at the bottom and taping in place.
8. Stick the stem in the hole at the top of the pumpkin. Again, hot-gluing in place is optional.

Getting fancy:
1. Cut fall garlands to have nice additions such as leaves and acorns to tuck in with the stem.
2. Add scent to the pumpkin by adding potpourri the center or scented oils to the polyfil.
3. Experiment with different shapes and sizes by using different brands toilet paper, cutting paper towel rolls down, and using more/less polyfil.

29  Gilded/Golden Pumpkin Centerpiece - Halloween -> Thanksgiving in Thanksgiving by funtobewith on: October 25, 2007 03:24:05 PM
Saw these for sale at grocery store for $30... Knew I could make just as well for way less!!! Easy peasy!!!  Grin

Take a real pumpkin (or fake if you prefer, I like the weight of the real ones!). Paint it metallic gold... hot glue fall leaves and a big bow made from wired floral ribbon, some really pretty with a gold/metallic edge.

Gorgeous and will last and last because they aren't cut... perfect for any decor!

I try to choose nicely shaped pumpkins with character and texture if possible, deep ridges, or even that brown bumpy texture, it all add character.

Here's a photo from last year... I'm making more tonight!!!
