1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Random Assortment of Photos [Img heavy] on: October 22, 2008 02:01:18 PM
So I'm not really a photographer but I finally got pictures off my camera and onto my computer and I thought a couple were pretty good and I wanted to share. Please let me know what you think of them, honestly. And if you know what any of the flowers are please let me know!

^This one is a close up of the flowers on the bush in the first picture.

2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Dr. Horrible Costume help on: October 10, 2008 04:28:18 PM
So I've fallen in love with Dr. Horrible and I'd like to be home for halloween this year. I've already figured out the googles and gloves but I'm a bit stuck on the rest of the outfit. Anyone know of any patterns that will get me close to his outfit, or better yet anything I could concievably recon? I'd really appreciate any help you guys would give me. And if you don't know who Dr. Horrible is check it out on Hulu!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Denim Shopping Bag on: February 16, 2008 12:27:58 PM
So we have like six store bought reusable bags but whenever we go shopping that's never enough. Since I had some free time today I decided to make another reusable bag and use up some denim fabric that I've had forever. I attempted to do a tree stencil and it came out alright considering the way I did it. I'm pretty happy with the bag over all, it's nice and sturdy, and has plenty of room for food stuffs.

My tree looks a little like it's melting. Oh well. Now I know how not to do a stencil.
4  COOKING / Dessert / I need decadent desserts! on: December 20, 2007 03:27:28 AM
So this year for my grandfarther's Christmas present we're giving him a one year membership to 'The Dessert of the Month Club'. We're going to send him a little brochure every month with three different desserts he can choose from. The one he selects we're going to make and then send to him. But we need recipes. Cookies, cakes, pies, brownies, whatever.

He really likes chocolate so we're looking for things that include that, as well as other very rich dishes. It has to be something that isn't too hard to make, but is still something special and not everyday. So if you guys have any of your favorite desserts I'd love the recipes!
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Jazzing up a scarf on: December 18, 2007 03:56:05 AM
So I'm (hoping) to make a scarf for my friend for Christmas but I feel like it's a little plain. I got this really nice yarn and I'm going to add fringe at the ends but is there anything else I can do to make it more exciting? I'm a pretty novice crocheter, I can do chaining, SC and DC but if it isn't hard I can learn to do more. I need something interesting but not difficult. I've only got untill Friday.

6  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Charities looking for blankets in Tompkins County NY? on: November 02, 2007 01:20:05 PM
I live in Tompkins County New York and I've seen a lot of people knitting and crocheting at school lately. I've been thinking about starting up a club to maybe make blankets for a local charity. Does anyone know of any? And it doesn't necessarily have to be in Tompkins County, I guess anywhere in New York or the US works. I just want to do something nice for someone else and this seems like a good thing to do because I love crocheting.
7  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Substitute for Sweet Condensed Milk? on: October 15, 2007 04:34:53 PM
I'm making a scratch pumpkin pie and one of the ingredients is sweet condensed milk. I'm working on elminating dairy from diet and if possible I would like to avoid using this. I looked at the ingredients for the condensed milk and it just said sugar and milk. Could I concievably make non-dairy CM by adding sugar to soy milk? Do they sell non-dairy CM? Sorry if this question is ridiculous, I'm just trying to find something.

And also, is there a substitute for cream cheese? This is for a seperate recipies. I'm going to try making cream cheese cookies with jame in the middle (not sure what they're called). Anything I can use that will have a similar taste to cream cheese?
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / I hate shopping for birthdays! on: October 08, 2007 11:45:52 AM
Gah, I really hate shopping for birthdays because I never know what to get and I'm always terrified I'll get something they'll absolutely hate. So right now I'm trying to think of something for a friend. I've got kind of a comfort theme going, I bought her some really cute bookmarks because she loves reading and I got her some really nice chocolates because well, almost everyone loves chocolate. But I don't know what else to get her. At this point I'm kind of strapped for cash (I spend money like mad) and I need something relatively cheap/easy to make as her birthday is right around the corner. She is turning 16.

-Cute things liked stuffed animals (anyone know of any patterns, I'm a sewing novice)
-Gothy stuff (not too dark, her mom will flip out and call me a devil child if I get anything that's too dark)
-Drawing (but I've given her sketchbooks and such before)

She's not really too girly but if you can think of some really kick ass jewellery ideas she might wear it. I'm thinking I might attempt making a button necklace (not sure how to explain it).

Thanks for your help.
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Hem help! on: September 19, 2007 05:27:27 PM
So I'm working on my halloween costume and I'm hemming the ends of the sleeves. The only problem is that the edge of the sleeve is all curvy and I'm having trouble hemming it. I've ironed it but when I go to sew it comes out looking all lumpy and gross. How can I fix this because it looks very unattractive and I'm getting tired of ripping out stitches.

Sorry I'm wasting everyone's time with such a novice question. This is the biggest project I've ever done, and all my other projects were just straight lines. I've really been thrown a curve ball here. (Okay, not really, I just had to sya that to make the obvious, lame pun, ha ha).
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My apron, the first project I'm proud of! on: September 04, 2007 06:36:50 AM
This year I'm taking a ceramics class so I decided I needed an apron. Not to mention I do a lot of baking and I'm a very messy/clumsy person in the kitchen. So I sat down yesterday and made this.

It's a dark navy blue, with a flowery, light blue strap. I've yet to master the art of taking picture of yourself so I don't have one of it on me. But here it is stretched out on the floor. It actually looks really good on me, I can't wait to use it!

I made it based off a pattern I found on about.com (I'll find the link if anyone wants it). I altered it a bit though because I'm a small person. I was going to add pockets but then I figured that they'd just end up getting filled with flour or something after I spilled stuff all over the place.

I also have a request. For the strap I used some of this fabric I found at Walmart. They only had a yard left of it and it was in the clearance section. I really, really like it and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find some. The selvage edge has Hamil Textiles LTD PATT #27682 written on it and that's about all I know. Here is a picture of it.

If you can find some please tell me where you found it. I'd really like more of this so I can make something out of it.

And before I go, here's a picture of my dog because she was my support during the construction of this. And because she looks so gosh darned cute. I almost had her modeling the apron but she wasn't too keen on me putting it on her. Oh well.

Thanks for looking!
