4  Sugar Cookie Ornaments (tutorial) in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by deSamothrace on: December 13, 2008 05:29:37 PM
This is number 2 for my Christmas on a budget tutorials.

This project was free for me, however, if you do have some monies to do this project you can possibly walk away with some fancy schmancy ornaments at about $10.

I've also created a christmas garland tutorial here:

5  Re: Assistance in making miniature pie crusts (img) in Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions by deSamothrace on: November 23, 2008 07:50:53 PM
thanks guys you've been a huge help!
the shape is way better, and I've had a much easier time trying to sculpt it with the new advice.

here are some results!

This is what happens (by the way) when you ask your man to help out. Lol.  When I came home from grocery shopping the one on the left was fried.   Cry

Now I just need to practice some nice crust folding techniques.

Thank you much guys!

6  Assistance in making miniature pie crusts (img) in Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions by deSamothrace on: November 22, 2008 08:26:02 PM
I'm a little new at working with polymer clay.  I'm normally a sewer  Grin

I've been experimenting a bit and I'm pretty impressed.  My recent project has been making me **nuts** though.  I've been trying to make pie crust for a pie without a filling.
I've tried a few things:
~~putting it into a mold and trying to pull it out
~~ wrapping it over the exterior of a mold (like a bowl) and peeling it off
~~trying to hand sculpt it

through all of these, the shape has been just terrible.  So I'm wondering if someone could assist in ideas for making a crust that will hold its shape.

Could I bake it in/on a mold?
Should I chill the clay to make it stiffer to sculpt?
I've also got some miniature pie tins on the way that i've ordered, if that helps your ideas at all..

Also, it's your lucky day Wink  I made this just for this distressing occasion.  Here's what i'm trying to accomplish:

7  Hoodies! (img hvy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by deSamothrace on: November 12, 2008 07:51:39 AM
I've decided to try my hand at hoodies!
--what a nightmare by the way

Here's the latest and greatest.   My first one could fit like 2 boys into it cause I wasn't sure how small to go! llol

Want some tips!?  just start slicing up some old hoodies!  Wink

For harry potter, the lining & cuffs are made of stretch velvet burnout.  You can't really tell--cause I have my hand shoved up the cuff, but it's ruched so it naturally gathers on its own.

8  Black and White Corset [Img Hvy] in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by deSamothrace on: November 12, 2008 07:36:07 AM
So, here it is!  Sorry for so many pictures, but it's a lot of tiny work.

This is easily 98% embroidery.  Talk about forever!   So this is what they did when there was no electricity...

This is made of canvas/duck cloth. The base of the design is a few trim pieces of black and white lace.  I've also cut and frayed some fine paisley fabric I pulled out of my "do not cut" stash. The third layer is a silk roving of green/yellow/blue hand stitched into mini starry starry night swirls.  The fourth and final layer is the heavy dark green floss.  For some, I actually split the threads and combined them together to make different shades.  I thought I was going to rip my thumb off trying to pull the needle through that fabric!  lol.

the details
