1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: New gray room??? on: September 28, 2009 01:18:35 AM
Grey is a great colour for a relaxing rooms. I myself have a living room painted in a very light grey on three walls and a light grayish-lilac on the fourth wall. The sofa is stone-grey and the combination colors for the spring/summer season are plum and lime-green. Silver decor goes great with that.
For the autum/Cwinter season all the cushions, flower-pots etc. will be moss-green and claret-red as well as lots of gold.
It is very relaxing and cosy in every season.

But I would not suggest a milky teal-grey. This colour turns to much into blue which is cold and the combination with red and greenish accessoires looks to hard and not very relaxing.
To be honest: the fourth wall in my living room was painted blueish-milky-lead by accident. It was awfully cold and there was absolutely no way to mix in a warm red or purple or green in the room before repainting the wall greyish-lilac.
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Can mold grow in a can of paint? on: September 28, 2009 12:44:53 AM
yes, paint can mold. Or turn sour. Then it will stink horrible.
Especially if it is wall paint or a green product.
Get rid of it and buy new paint.
Don't ever use the moldish paint.

what color is your bathroom? Yellowish, greenish, white? I can't tell from the fotos. But whatever color it is: add the contrary color for all the accessories to it. Like yellowish bathroom, go for blue/green (good for you, because your shower curtain seems to fit). Get towels in blue or green as well.
Greenish bathroom? go for yellow/ orange (even lavender would do).
White bathroom? Great! but don not go for black. Yak! Go with mud-colors, grey, lavender, purple.

Get lots of small boxes for all the items on the boards or medicine-cabinet. The boxes should not be deeper as the board and only about 5 inch high. Gather all your flaskes, bottles and tubes. You even could design the outside of the box with your names or favorite motives.

Get a cheap frame. Look around at garage-sales or flea markets. Or just get a ledge from the hardware-store, sew it youryelf and fix the poster with some cardboard in the back.
Get all the fotos and pictures you show in your bathroom rearranged. They need to hang in one row or one highth or as a block. No pictures above the mirror! The way you hung them up looks massy instead of artfully arranged. (Sorry for that!)

Get the door of the linen cabinet painted or otherwise coverd. Maybe you could glue fabric on to it with starch.

Try to have a larger mirror with integrated lamps. This is the most expensive part, but it will enlargen a tiny room.
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: plastic gel wax in a fish bowl? on: June 09, 2009 12:33:23 PM
i made gel-wax-candles some years ago. It is pretty easy and the gel wax is not to hot to fill in the fish bowl. But that stuff is pretty sticky. Therefore you will soon have a dust-problem on top of the "gel-wax-water".

Your MOL is a genius. What a great work! I love the patchwork-one most. It shows so much of her live.
You are sure lucky to have such a special woman in your family!
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Suggestions for kitchen. on: May 08, 2009 01:43:20 AM
Lucky you! I had to buy my own kitchen and because I do have not as much storage throughout my flat I bought huge kitchen cabinets to store all the china and glasses I do not need daily.
Thats what I would do in your case. You could even use them as storage for christmas decorations etc.
The kitchen would be much lighter when you could paint the cabinets in cream, but I have to warn you. My experience with painted kitchen cabinets is not really lucky. I always had a pot falling and scratching the paint off of one door or a knife scratching along and leaving a mark. Nowadays my kitchen is birch wood: bright and easily to clean, hurray!
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: I need help with organizing my Shoe Mountain in my closet!! D: on: April 16, 2009 04:57:59 AM
do you have enough space to store boxes?
In that case I would recommend shoe-boxes KOMPLEMENT from IKEA or just get lots of LINGO-Boxes from Ikea. Because those are not transparrent you have to take a photo of your shoes and add it on the front of the box. Then you can store all the boxes and always do know, what is inside the box.

since your room ist not huge and all that dark-green you paint your room with, I would add white or ivory. Lots of it. Otherwise you will have a very dark room.
Paint your dresser in a light colour, as well as all the other furnitures like chair, table, nightstand., boarders...

And how about a wall-tatoo with a nature theme like bamboo or flowers. Even Ikea has some (though they do not glue very well to the wall, you better get some at the home-improvement-shop).
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: 30 Trinkets for a 30 year work anniversary? on: April 16, 2009 01:12:27 AM
how about flowers?
I just heard about the idea to give someone roses for each birthday. Like the person is having her/ his 40th birthday, the guests are giving the person one flower per person with a special note about the person (like: this rose stands for your creativity; this rose stands for your fairness....)
You could do this with your co-worker. I am pretty sure she likes flowers (you could even do this with chocolate) and every one of you will have to say something nice about her (hopefully).
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Need a unique wedding gift idea... on: February 21, 2009 03:03:48 AM
in Germany we have the tradition to give a wedding-gazette. It is a gazette written by some friends and family-members and will be read by all the guests. The gazette includes fotos, jokes and articles (especially about he bride and groom, but also about familiy and friends).
We do read the gazette aloud at the festivity. It is funny and a nice memory for the future time.
Maybe you could do something like this.
