1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Strawberry Shortcake Bongo Jeans on: February 20, 2014 09:39:24 PM
80s/90s Bongo jeans and 1980 Strawberry Shortcake fabric. Both items were thrifted.

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Upcycled Bronx midi skirt on: January 21, 2014 02:30:45 PM
Here is a skirt made from a mens 3X button up. Sorry I don't have an original photo Sad It's actually reversible and the buttons are functional. It has an elastic waist and when it's totally finished, I will add two hook and eyes at the front so that it closes nicely. I hope to make more skirts like this. I think maybe with those tacky 90s digital graphic shirts (you know, the ones with flames or anime!).

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Vintage Samsonite with ALIENS!!! on: January 20, 2014 06:34:22 PM

I nabbed this vintage Samsonite at a thrift store in New Jersey. I collect stickers and had a complete set of these cute aliens. I then mod podged them to the front and now it's a whole new suitcase!!!!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Upcycled Tropical Fish Babydoll Dress on: January 20, 2014 06:27:57 PM

And here is the tropical fish dress! I purchased this in New Jersey, I believe. It didn't fit Sad Which is okay because it gave me an excuse to dress up the dress! It originally had some weird stains and was a hideous calf length. I chopped it and added a bottom strip to give the skirt structure. I then did three patches of dark green dye, to represent the pollution of our oceans. Of course, one doesn't have to view it so negatively but I think it is interesting...the tye dye is done so that is looks like rays of light are penetrating the 'sludge'. Hope you love it as much as me!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Men's denim vest with faux patriotic patch on: January 20, 2014 06:24:13 PM
So I won't say I'm an anarchist, but I'm not all into being nationalistic, that's for sure. So I made this vest:

I purchased this at the Salvation Army on half off day. It was too big for my husband but I feel like, at least in NYC, anything denim other than crappy pants are hard to find at good prices when thrifting. So I grabbed it and didn't look back. It's vintage Jordache and was in okay condition when I got it...somebody had tried to make it smaller then took out all the stitching and it reeked of cat piss and cigarettes. I'm not one to shy away from gross clothing so I distressed it like crazy, did a front spray die (the color is now dark plum), and gave it a good washing. I also added the back patch which is made from vintage 70s fabric. I've already used the fabric on a skirt of my own and in my latest photo backdrop. It seems like an innocent enough fabric but to those who are cynical like me... Wink On another note, it's dark in the first 2 photos but I also custom dyed my husband's Levi's purple Smiley
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Upcycled Tees - AFI, Blink 182, NY Mets, Billy & Mandy (img heavy) on: January 20, 2014 06:16:07 PM
Can't wait to do more...I haven't upcycled tees since I was in high school! There is definitely more detail than what got captured...plenty of holes and other goodness!

For this one, I did a very rough cut on the arms and turned it into a crop. I then added a zipper to the neckline so it can be worn as an asymmetrical v. I'm not a Blink 182 fan but I loved all the bright colors Smiley

This tee features the awesome Fred Fredburger! I also turned this into a crop. The back left had Fred poking his bellybutton so I removed it and added it to the center back. I also added some holes and fraying. The graphic was like new when I thrifted it so I aged it with some sanding and a little nail polish remover.

I'm actually not much of an AFI fan...although there was that one song in high school...I'll be just fine pretending I'm not...yeah. I liked the graphic with people mourning in the rain, so emo! The black was really faded so first I did a tye dye with dark blue so that the shirt looked like it has fade marks. I then chopped the sleeves off and cut the bottom and added holes and such.

Finally, I bought this totally knowing my husband is a Yankees fan (we live in the Bronx). But I cannot resist Looney Tunes! I cut off the neck, sleeves, and bottom then gave them a good STRETCH when wet. Then I let it sit in a coffee bath so it got a bit of a 'dingy' look. This one is actually vintage from 1991.

Hope you guys like them! I cannot believe I spent so many years not hacking up tees. Once I get back in the groove, I hope to get more elaborate. Thanks for looking!
7  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Ombre 80s plaid button down shirt on: December 29, 2013 05:27:00 PM

Thought the original yellow was a bit plain and washed out. I decided to use warm colors and came up with this! I snagged the top originally from the thrift store Smiley
8  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Dyed 80s crop top on: December 29, 2013 05:24:01 PM

Had this sitting around for a while so I decided to spice it up with some orange Smiley

Here is a before:

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Floral circle skirt with gorgeous 70s fabric on: August 05, 2013 07:40:26 PM
Yep, a tiered circle skirt. You can read more on my blog. The fabric is just gorgeous and so soft. I'm wearing with tiny flower print leggings and a 70s nylon knit tee with a panda appliqu Smiley

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Two sided floral shorts on: August 04, 2013 02:34:50 PM
Made with thrifted fabric and lace from my mom. I don't fill them out well but I still think they are really cute. The front and waistband is a mauve fabric with a ditsy floral print. The back is a floral wallpaper print. Perfect with a band tee...I like comfy. More photos and info on my blog!
