1  CLOTHING / Clothing Sewalongs / Re: Costume-a-long on: October 07, 2006 06:14:04 PM
Is it too late to join in?? I am making a pirate costume for my son and a renaissance style princess for my daughter, and I started making a renaissance gown for a job interview I had (didn't get to finish it but I brought it in half done, still got the job!) I hope to finish that for myself. It's busy season at my new job, as a seamstress for a renaissance costume shop, and I also have an interview for a seamstress job at a theatrical costume shop, so I don't know how I'm going to finish 3 costumes! I need motivation! Smiley

Thanks so much for your comments! YogiBear, the first shirt is New Look 6258. It's basically a peasant top, but instead of adding elastic to the ends, you make a casing out of bias tape and insert the elastic in there. Did that make any sense at all??  Huh I would actually like a top like that in my size! If i decide to make one I'll take pics and post them here  Smiley

Here's a few of the things I've made for my little girl!

5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Emma as Alice in Wonderland! on: September 14, 2005 06:27:14 AM
Since Halloween is coming up, here's a pic of my daughter's halloween costume from last year. It would probably look better without the long sleeves underneath, but it was too cold to go trick or treating without them! I used Mccalls 4567, it was an easy stitch and save pattern, but was definitely not the easiest pattern I've used! I am making a different version of it for this year, she wants to be Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. we already bought the red sparkly shoes!

She also won 1st place in a Walmart costume contest.

(My son is Harry Potter in the back, I made his costume too and he also won 1st place in his age group! Here's a better pic of him...
She wants to wear her Alice outfit to school as just an everyday outfit. What do you think? Huh
6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Very bright peasant dress for school! on: September 14, 2005 06:08:42 AM
Thank you for all the great comments! The dress went over well, the teacher loved it Smiley
adtarver71, the pattern was really easy, I think the hardest part was getting the gathers even on each tier, maybe because there wasn't very much extra to gather. I think if I make it again I'll add extra fabric to each panel, so there is more of a ruffle effect. I almost always use a pattern, I'm afraid to sew without one!

I am making a bunch of dresses and skirts for Emma to wear to kindergarten. Here is the one she wore today...
It was an easy one. I used simplicity 5695 and appliqued the flowers on the bodice. I'll post the others when she wears them Smiley

I don't usually like to wear skirts but I would wear that one! You've inspired me to make my own, maybe with an embroidered flower on the bottom? Or multi colored tiers? hmmm.....  Grin
