1  Yarn Apocalypse crocheted this brain slug of his own free will in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Yarn Apocalypse on: February 07, 2008 05:26:29 AM
So, we're having Spawn Number Two in a few months, and I decided to start her off geeky by making her a set of crocheted sci-fi toys and clothes.  I'm thinking a stuffed brain slug (Futurama), a Yoda stuffie and a Jayne hat (Firefly) if I can work out a baby-sized crochet version of that.  So here's the first one that I completed:

What's that on your head, Yarn Apocalypse?

Sweet Zombie Jesus, it's a brain slug!!!!

Pretty easy to do, although I need to improve the pseudopods or jelly veil or whatever the bottom edge of a brain slug is. It's really hard to tell from the slugs' brief exposure on the show, but I'm thinking pseudopods. Wink

2  Wheel Lattice square afghan in Crochet: Completed Projects by Yarn Apocalypse on: September 22, 2007 01:17:00 PM
This is the first full-size blanket I've done.  The pattern is basically the  Wheel Lattice Square from http://dayna.tdgservices.com/ShowPattern.aspx?PatternID=58, but I stopped before getting into the meshy outer rows and added a row of solid blue around each square.  The yarn is mostly Wool-Ease and a few other odds and ends.  I know, the colors are probably an outrage to normal human eyes, but I like that sort of thing.

This was a very cool project for me - portable, with enough stitch variation to keep me from falling asleep but not so much that I had to focus my complete attention on it.  I had Firefly, Futurama and Seinfeld in constant rotation while making it.  Other nights I put some music on and drifted into Crochet Dreamland.  A few of the squares seemed to make themselves while I was listening to music.

The only real annoyance was assembly, of course.  I actually finished the squares several weeks ago, but couldn't force myself to sit there sewing the squares together.

Here's the blanket on my bed, even though it's meant for wrapping up on the couch and watching EVEN MORE Firefly!
