11  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Newbie with a couple questions on: January 19, 2005 05:56:15 AM
Hi and welcome!!   Grin  I very rarely crochet with balls of yarn.  The ONLY time I roll my yarn into balls is if I use something that comes in a "hank" versus the skein or if I am using something like Landscapes that comes in a "ball" but it isn't really a ball LOL.  So, I don't think it is necessary to roll your yarn.

The homespun yarn, I have never worked with.  I have worked with yarns that were hard to see the stitches with however, it is usually just the first row.  After that, it all seemed really easy to me. Good Luck!

Thank you all!!  Smiley  Yes those are all individual pieces that are sewn together. LOL  Actually, the entire thing only took me about a month or 2 total.  However, I spread it out for a long time b/c I HATED putting the faces on each little piggy!  LOL

If anyone does make this pattern, I suggest putting the faces on the pigs before sewing them all together.  I felt like I was trying to cross stitch without a hoop. LOL

Oh and DD is "dear daughter" or "darling daughter".

Thanks again for all the comments!  I think it is adorable too. Grin
13  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Starting a crochet SnB.. on: January 16, 2005 01:37:04 PM
I think that it would be safer to hold it in public at first until you know everyone in your group.  I am also in college except I am a "non traditional, adult learner"(although not ancient, only 26 LOL).  I would absolutely LOVE to start a group at my college however, I may be an "old fogie" to some of them.

Update on how your group turns out.  I, for one, would love to hear about it.  Good Luck getting started.

Thanks so much for the information!!!  I really appreciate it.  I think I enjoy buying books more than yarn. LOL  Don't know why though.   Grin

So it is like Columbia House or BMG where they send you the selection if you don't send in the reply card saying...Do NOT send me that?  That is good to know!  I just ordered my first four books plus my 5th for 50% off the publishers suggested price.  I CAN'T wait to get them!!

Have any of your joined and taken advantage of their membership?  It seems like a really wonderful site with lots of great books on several different crafts.  So, spill it...what was your experience.  I am always nervous about "membership" type of stuff.

Here is a piggy throw I made for my DD.  It is so dang cute!  I got the pattern out of a Leisure Arts book titled "Color Bright Creatures".  I used the exact colors that the book called for because my DD can't pick a pattern and know she can use ANY color.  She wants it JUST like the picture! LOL She is only 6 so she has time...as I am teaching her to knit and crochet too. Sorry the first picture is sideways.  The colors in the second picture are more true.

I love the scarf!!!  It is beautiful!  I also love that yarn.  I made a simple scarf (the one on the label of that yarn actually) out of a different color.  I really liked the way it worked up.  Very soft but very expensive.  I have the Landscapes taste on a Simply Soft budget.

20  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Have you seen all the new pattern books at Walmart? on: November 18, 2004 02:16:55 PM
They have about 10 new pattern books at my local WalMart for ponchos, scarves, and bags!  They are all so AWESOME but there is only about 5 patterns in each and they are $7!  I wanted several of them SOOOOO bad but I can't justify spending $7+ for the books! Sad  In one of them is this hooded cape.  It goes all the way to your ankles!  It is so freaking cool!

Just thought I would let you all know in case you have more money than me! LOL
