This looks great!  Love those cute shoulder bows.  I think an action-shot is called for when weather permits.

Don't be shy to wear this beauty, it looks smashing!  And you've clearly already got the accessorizing down pat with that cute sash, so you can dress up or dress down as appropriate (I personally am seeing this under a denim or leather jacket for summer night walkabouts, but that's just me).  I also agree with the Nay, the goal should be to make things of fabric so inexpensive that practice runs are unnecessary.  I hate practising more than I hate failing.
Congrats on your first dress Smiley

I have been watching far too much Downton Abbey lately.  We got it on DVD, so I can just sit there and gorge myself on three episodes at a time.  When I'm not watching Downton, I like to imagine I'm living Downton, thus the need for a long skirt, reminiscent of those that Ladies Mary and Edith wear (not that we want to be an Edith, but she has nice things too).

This skirt was SUPER simple in design and construction.  I just took a similarly long skirt I had to use as a guide, grabbed my fabric, cut out two pieces, sewed, hemmed, and made a thin doubled-over waistband piece.  There are four darts at the top (two front and two back) for fit and a (not-so)invisible zipper.

Any comments or questions are welcome and appreciated.

Have a lovely day everyone!
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Striped retro skirt on: June 20, 2012 04:01:24 PM
I spied this material at Fabricland from across the store, was thrilled to see it was on super-sale, and happily brought it to the cutting table.  The lady said, "what are you planning with this?  It's an upholstery material." and eyed me suspiciously.  "Upholstering", I said.  Uh NO!  Clearly I'm going to make it into a super cute skirt, so just :p Fabricland lady.  It functions fabulously as a skirt material Smiley

I lurve it.  Fun for summer Smiley
