1  Keys + Ikea = Dressed-Up Dresser! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by animaeariesgirl on: October 14, 2013 07:48:53 PM
I found these beautiful over-sized and ornate keys at Michaelss craft store for $1.50 a piece. I had no idea how to use them, until I realized I wanted to change up my Ikea Malm dresser again. I used acrylic paint for color and mod podge to seal it. The keys were painted with Liquitex black Basics acrylic paint and glued to the drawer faces with E600 glue. What made me happiest, despite the simplicity of it, was the use of 3M painter's tape to make the lovely and crisp lines around the edges. Super happy with this antique yet modern looking piece for my bedroom Smiley

2  City Subway Maps Canvas Art - NYC/Philly/DC in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by animaeariesgirl on: September 01, 2013 08:26:21 PM
My newest art project and my proudest to date! I have moved to a new town to accept a fantastic job offer. However, I have never lived by myself and wanted pieces of decoration that reminded me of home.  Grin Where is home? I grew up in Queens, New York City all the way to high school. Then, I attended university in Philadelphia. Throughout the duration of my college career, I would visit my parents in NYC and also take a bus to DC to see my sister and brother-in-law.

I used the subway maps for NY, Philly, and DC that I used to travel through the cities to get to my destinations to see family and friends as the material for the following pieces of art. I decided to use each map to display the nickname of each city.  Wink

NYC = The Big Apple
Philly = The City of Brotherly Love
DC = The Capital of the World

The canvas background was painted with two tones of acrylic paint overlayed with sponge brushes. I also used stencils for the text and mod podge to seal the maps onto the canvases.

For more details on inspiration on how I made this project, please check out my blog:

3  Super Easy Jewelry and Nailpolish Displays in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by animaeariesgirl on: July 21, 2013 08:21:42 PM
I love simple projects that help me organize my own mess, while still looking cute!

I wanted to display my nailpolish collection so that I would see it often and use them more. Also, I think they are so colorful! Again, I got some candlestands and plates and attached them with glue for an easy DIY project. I followed another YouTube tutorial by anneorshine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myLKMrxkSeQ

Also, I decided to make a stand using this youtube tutorial by BeautySplurge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uSZH3IyULQ

I really wanted a way to display and hang my jewelry that could not fit anywhere else.  I actually got a hot dog holder from target to hang my bracelets and store smaller pieces within it! Also, I got a candlestand and little plate from the dollar store and glued it together with E600.

Super happy how easy and useful these items are!

4  Mod Podge Magic: Nightstand & Ikea Malm Dresser in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by animaeariesgirl on: July 21, 2013 08:05:43 PM
I recently graduated and moved out to another state for a job. I wanted my new place to reflect my colorful and quirky sense of style, but I didn't want to break the bank starting out. So, I decided to give a few old pieces I had from college a face lift with the help of Mod Podge, paint, and some scrapbook paper and/or fabric!

I don't really like matchy-matchy so much, so these two items don't look like they belong to gether hahaha.  Cheesy

First, the night stand!

And then, the dresser!

Overall, I'm really happy the way they turned out Smiley

6  Sweet-heart Dress form Army Green Jeans & Sewing Scraps! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by animaeariesgirl on: June 29, 2011 07:35:25 PM
I had lost a little bit of weight since last year, and my favorite pair of army green pants got A) too loose on me and B) had inconvient holes in the thigh area  Roll Eyes

I got inspired to make a fitted sweet-heart bodice with the pants material since it was sturdy enough yet stretchy. It looked a bit too plain so I added a slip and a layered ruffle skirt on the bottom. Any leftover from the quilting scraps I used to make some funky straps, line the neckline, and handsew a yo-yo to cover up the part of the bodice neck I couldn't cover XD

It's all relatively stretchy, so I didn't add a zipper (though one would have probably been a good idea haha).

7  Gold & Maroon One-Shoulder Dinosaur Dress! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by animaeariesgirl on: June 29, 2011 07:24:42 PM
At the beginning of the month, my university had held a "gala" for the spring to end the academic school year for the College of Arts & Sciences. It was held in The Academy of Natural Sciences, a museum in Philadelphia in the Dinosaur Exhibit Smiley The theme was "Party to Extinction" so I wanted to make a special dress for a special occasion!

I hope you can see the print on the skirt portion of the dress, but three different types of golden dinosaurs reside on there Smiley A lot of people really liked the dress, and commented on my adorable dinos Cheesy

8  Felt My Neighbor Totoro DSi Case in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by animaeariesgirl on: July 25, 2010 02:21:05 PM
Hello everyone!

Long time no post, ne? So I've been doing random crafts here & there but nothing has really hit me to be creative enough to be worth posting. Until this Smiley

My sister lovesssss Studio Ghibli films and one of her (and my) guilty pleasures is the oddity that is "My Neighbor Totor." For her Master's graduation present (for she is a smartie Cheesy) I decided to make her a DSi case because she was at the time using a beatup ziplock-like bag to carry it in!

The front is the Chu or medium sized blue Totoro with a flower & butterfly and the Japanese characters for "TOTORO!" underneath. The back has the large, Kaa or King Totoro looking all creepy, with a confused white Chibi Totoro & heart floating behind.

Pictures below! Enjoy & I appreciate any comments & criticism Cheesy

9  Handsewn Summer Skirt + Fall Pinafore <3 !!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by animaeariesgirl on: August 05, 2009 07:03:17 PM
Hey everybody!  Cheesy

It's been quite a while since I posted a craft here  Smiley

Since the summer has been a bit on the quiet side for me, so I have been feeling creative once more. Sadly, I parted ways with my sewing machine after classes ended (aka my sister dragged it to storage with her)  Embarrassed

Somehow it doesn't stop me from making things I love! So I decided to handsew everything! Boy, have I learned to appreciate my sewing machine XD

1. Summer Circle Skirt:

My first official summer craft (I have just been waiting til I did something else to post XD)!!! A simple circle skirt made from a yellow fabric decorated with bumble bees and lady bugs and flowers! I added some lining that has lace sewn to the bottom of it  Grin <3 I absolutely love it! Sadly, you cannot see my hair accessory I cheekily made.

Close up of the pin I sewn! I used a bit of scrap fabric, lace, and a wooden button to make a yo-yo for my hair  Wink (OMGSH. my eye looks so creepy here!!!  Shocked )

2. Fall Pinafore:

I sewed this from some free fabric my aunt gave me randomly one day. It's a nice olive corduroy. Sorry if it looks a bit wrinkled in the photo, I didn't iron the pinafore before  Embarrassed I used a lovely tutorial I found here: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=25035282&blogID=459748466

And of course a matching headband (It's a waste of fabric not to make one  Cheesy)

Thanks for viewing! Comments & criticism are always appreciated!!!

10  Felt Pokemon Pokedex DS Case! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by animaeariesgirl on: April 25, 2009 10:15:44 PM
Hello there!

Well, for my 19th birthday, my best friend gave me Pokemon Platinum. So, I suppose he is the inspiration for this craft  Smiley

I needed a new DS Case since my old one was getting a bit beat up (it was an old school Nintendo Controller, seen here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=265880.msg2987079#msg2987079), and with my brand new game, what else could be more fitting than a Pokedex?!

With a bit of research, I found out how the inside of the Pokedex looked like, and with a bit of scrapped pieces of colored felt and a lot of patience, here is the result:

Tee-hee the "screen" of the Pokedex acts as a game holder  Tongue

The front looks a bit plain, so I am contemplating either finding a trademark patch of the "Pokemon" title or making it out of felt, but we'll see  Grin

Hope you enjoyed this! Comments & criticism are always appreciated!  Cheesy
