1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / thickness of screen filler? on: December 29, 2008 03:12:40 PM
I'm using screen filler for the first time. (no drawing fluid) How thick does it need to be? I'm afraid of not making it thick enough and ink seeping through. Is this a valid concern? I'm mainly concerned about the detailed areas in which I lightly painted it on. Thanks for the help! Wink
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Peg Bundy: for the love of bon bons on: November 04, 2008 07:31:44 AM
LOVE IT! you did a great job! and i hope you won't mind if i express my jealousy of how great you look in skintight attire (so you used some cutlets... still!) i would totally do this next year if my chicken legs wouldn't make me look like a crack head. so it seems you are creative, smokin', have a photographic memory, and obviously have a great sense of humor. i hope my husband NEVER meets you Wink good job!

4  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / How to make a decent tutorial for my Halloween costumes on: August 25, 2008 01:39:51 PM
I have NO idea where to post this and am almost SURE that it will be moved and I'm sorry ahead of time but this was the only place that made a little sense.

I have seen some beautifully constructed tutorials on craftster and would like any advice on how to make them. I have made Halloween costumes for my 2 boys and want to create professional looking tutorials for them.  I am going for a computer designed tutorial rather than actual photos of the process. I should probably add that I do not have "paint" or "photoshop". I use a mac and have downloaded a program called "gimp" that seems like it could be VERY useful for someone who has spent a couple of years taking graphic design classes at the community college... this not apply to me... although I wish it did. Any tips at all would be greatly appreciated!
5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Re: Problems with fiberfill...need help! on: November 28, 2007 08:40:17 AM
months later and not exactly the answer you're looking for but sort of related...i have been thinking about experimenting with alternative stuffing (inspired by 2 toddlers who eat their toys, almost no money, and a genuine concern for the environment). i heard that old pantyhose are a good alternative. i thought it may have a clumpy effect but maybe if they were cut up a little... i don't know. the only problem with this is i'm not a big hose wearer so it may take 20 years for me to come up with enough "old" hose to stuff one softie. it may be something to put on my thrift shopping list.  i read that you should cut the thick waste band off first. anyway, i'll let you know how it works if i ever make it happen. Tongue other alternatives are scrap fabric, yarn pieces, etc...or as a weighted (unwashable) filler: sand, rice, beans.
6  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Re: Simply Spray XTC t-shirt on: August 05, 2007 02:31:12 PM
yeah, it did seem to fade a little bit. i know what you mean abouut it being watery... i think this kind is better used for the tie-dye effect, and other free-hand stuff they show on  their web site. haven't tried the stencil spray yet but i intend to.

i have about 500 target bags that i feel too guilty to throw away but i keep forgetting to take them in the store each time i go back... it's so funny when i remember because thay look at me like,"gross!" as if the used bag has poo in it or something. anyway... my boyfriend and i get a kick out of different responses.... this bag will will definately blow their minds. it's SUCH a great idea! not to mention super cute. thanks!

wow thanks! a response from simply spray himself! you should get a job in my electric company's customer service department. it would be nice if all companies cared so much. that helps so much! it actually answers all of my questions about simply spray and then some. i didn't want to give up on it yet becuase i plan on making TONS more shirts for my kids and other things that require bulk amounts. i wanted to stick with simply spray because it's non-toxic. spray paint is easy to work with but is hard and rough to the touch and i always feel guilty using it with all of the harmful fumes and chemicals.
9  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Finally finished my first PATTERN. on: July 30, 2007 11:12:31 AM
congratulations! that is a very exciting accomplishment and you did a great job. the little red buttons are cute. i think the fun part of sewing is improvising when you hit a road block or have a different idea. that's what makes it yours and special and that's also how you improve. looking foward to your next finished product!
