lipstick from jenny hart's stitch-it kit with FEMME.  the best part?  the strands of metallic in the lipstick tube, if you ask me... Smiley

i'm working on a few things right now... a portrait of audrey hepburn, a birthday gift for my father-out-law, and more queer slogans.

i've started a cross-stitch graffiti project where i stitch things and leave them in public places... the slogans are part of that.

17  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / a couple more portraits on: September 15, 2008 04:48:57 PM
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was done on 22 hardanger w/ a palette of 18 colors for a greyscale effect. Smiley

Grace Kelly was done on 18 AIDA w/ the same palette.

For optimal viewing, stand up and walk a few feet from the computer.  The only way I know how to take photos makes them look like close-ups and they look better from a few feet away. Smiley

i haven't posted anything in awhile because i've been embroidering, but i finally finished this.  i started it back in march or something when it was still really cold out here, and then when it got warm, i totally stopped stitching on it!

The finished work is 6x4, 73 color palette, for a grand total of 11, 616 stitches!!!

i wanted to enter it in the Minnesota State Fair, but i missed the registration deadline.  Sad

here you go...

20  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / drag queen x-stitch portrait on: January 18, 2008 07:56:25 PM
I'm from Cincinnati, OH  originally but now live in St. Paul, MN.  My partner & I went to Cinci for Thanksgiving and were hanging out in Sitwells Coffeehouse.  My partner was reading and I was working on my (still unfinished) x-stitch portrait of Patsy Cline.  This person walking past our table stopped and asked if I do portraits of anyone, and I said, "yea, anyone with money".  Well, he asked me right then to do his portrait, so I took his photo and a cash deposit.  Here's the finished product.  The background is a white 18 ct aida w/ silver metallic woven through.

As usual, I fixed up the photo in Photoshop and then imported it into PCStitch to make the pattern.

Sadly, my scanner is broken and the photo didn't turn out as well as I would have liked...
