21  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday - May 7, 2010 on: May 07, 2010 08:34:02 AM
I finished school (diploma in Textile Arts) last week.. and I'm in the process of finding a job, so I got 3 skeins of yarn spun this week! lol

(colors are less blue in person)

left to right:
"Coco-chineal" 86 yards, merino, hand dyed with cochineal

(untitled) 32 yards, perendale, local sheep (from Ontario) and merino (?), hand dyed and commercially dyed.  This was my attempt at patchwork yarn.  I'm still working out the kinks, there were a lot of spots that were just one color.

30 yards, local sheep (from Ontario), drop spindled and then plied on my spinning wheel

I can't wait to see everyone's yarns!!
22  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday - March 12, 2010 on: March 12, 2010 02:24:40 PM
is it just me, or is Fiber Friday dying?  Cry

I participated in a swap called Handspun & Handmade at the end of February and I spun these two skeins for my partner:

(can't remember name)
Merino, corridale, wool, firestar, etc

16yards (approx.)
23  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday - March 5,2010 on: March 05, 2010 07:57:37 AM
wow, I've never started a Fiber Friday post before.. I didn't realize the pressure.. hope everyone likes my yarn.. Smiley

Llama and Bamboo blend

I completely processed the llama (brown) all by myself, all of the washing, carding and spinning.. I enjoyed it a lot more than washing sheep fleece because there is no grease in llama fleece. Smiley   I still need to come up with a name for this yarn, so if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great Cheesy
24  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / altered/art book/journal supplies swap on: December 24, 2009 03:51:49 PM
I was thinking a swap that maybe had size limits, like, fill an envelope or small bubble wrap package.

Things could include scrap paper, buttons, rusted items, stickers, etc.

Also, these items would be good for scrapbookers as well...
25  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Lion Tapestry on: April 22, 2009 09:53:44 AM
I am in a 2 year Textile Art program, and last semester we had a few weeks of tapestry.  This was my final project.  I thought I would share it here with everyone, because I know you would appreciate the time that went into it.  It was inspired by an ancient German tapestry in a book my teacher had.  I wish his face was different Cheesy

7-1/4" x 10-1/4"

29  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Three bags FULL on: January 07, 2008 08:40:57 PM
I visited an old friend tonight, that just happened to have a llama farm Wink  .. and she was so nice to give me three bags FULL of llama fiber!! for free! i couldn't believe it.. and it was perfect timing, because i just signed up for a spinning class today.  I can't wait to try it out!

has any one spun with llama before? what was your experience? have you dyed the fiber? did it take well?

Here's a pic of the bags (approx. 1+ lbs each)

(the one on the top left is a medium brown; top right is a darker redder brown, and the bottom middle is a try color of medium brown, light brown and white)
30  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Bad Yarn Choice on: December 26, 2007 08:28:47 PM
what does everyone do, when they come home with a bunch of yarn.. and it doesn't exactly knit up the way you were hoping..

i have a bunch of boucle yarn that i was hoping to knit into a nice throw for the couch.. and it is such a hassle to knit with.. and then.. my fiance picked out some yarn for scarves for his grandma and mom.. and it makes me want to kill the ball of yarn..  when i knit with it..

do you guys donate it? just keep it in your stash till you come up with some great idea for it?
