To be honest every time I have tried to crochet with fun fur type yarn I've given up and resorted to knitting. I think it is so hard to see because most of this novelty yarn is double stranded, one strand fur one strand smooth. So the only tip I have is to make sure that you are getting under both strands or the yarn. Although it's easier said than done. Good luck.
