1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Make your own drum carder?? Anyone? on: July 02, 2007 04:10:27 PM
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has ever made their own drum carder, either manual or electric?  It seems if you have some kind of mechanical abilities you may be able to make one, just need to purchase some wood and the toothed fabric.

Let me know if you have and how it worked out.

Thanks
Kim
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Harvesting Lanolin on: July 02, 2007 01:59:18 PM
I just recieved 7 full fleeces, they are beautiful dirty with vm and have tons of lanolin.  I could have sworn I found a site that tells you how to harvest the lanolin, of course I cannot find it right now.

So I was wondering I did wash some junk fleece just so I wouldn't ruin good fleece being my first time.  I did it like everyone says hot water {140 degree's} I thought I remembered that if you didn't use soap the oil would seperate and come to the top.  Well it didn't happen.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong, or I would need some heavy machinery to harvest the lanolin. Huh  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards
Kim
