11  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Biology Nerd Swap on: August 21, 2005 08:57:52 PM
I'm thinking I need a swap angel.  I sent to my partner a long time ago, but she has not sent to me yet. Sad
Would anyone be interested?  P- P- Please! Grin

I'm going through the same thing for the Reading is Sexy Swap, so I empathize.

I'd be very willing to make a smaller item or two (smaller, but still nice  Smiley), but the only problem is that I'm uber-busy for the next two weeks (weeklong retreat/program then packing like crazy & moving to school). So, I'm still volunteering as a part-time swap angel, but you wouldn't get your things until 2.5-3 weeks from now (like Sep 10 or so).  If that's ok, sign me up!

I really wish I could do more, but with minimal free time available, I don't think it'd be possible. If we could get another swap angel who could make a large item or another one or two swap angels to make a small item, I think it could work rather well.   C'mon fellow bio nerds, let's help out a fellow Craftster!

Oh yeah, I'm leaving tomorrow for the weeklong program and most likely won't have internet access....so feel free to PM me with any more info or details, but be aware that I probably won't be able to reply until late Saturday. I hope it all works out! Flakers are no fun.

Oh wow, this sounds like such a great swap. I wish I could partake in the crafting goodness, but classes are starting in a couple weeks and I really shouldn't. Argh....willpower....I need willpower.

I'll definitely be checking out the swap gallery for this swap once it's up!

I'm posting what I sent Qtykyuuko since the DC# of the package I sent her shows that it arrived on Monday, so I'm going to assume that she's received it. Ooo, but I had a lot of fun making her things. I went a bit photo-crazy....

Bookmark book tote (just big enough to fit a couple paperbacks and some other small items)

there's even bookmarks on the sides!

A paperback book cover that serves 2 purposes: disguising racy covers of romance novels & protecting them from food stains while Qtkyuuko reads them during lunch

A handy little pouch for storing a library card & for those times when she's looking for a non-fiction book

And the rest of the goodies:
-beaded paper rose book thong that matches the long rose earrings I made Qtkyuuko for the Earring Binge Swap (I felt it sort of fit the whole romance novel/Reading is Sexy theme too)

Since she really likes anything Japanese:
-a painted metal fan bookmark from Japan (my friend studied abroad there and brought me back goodies!)
-3 sheets of origami paper (also from Japan, they can be used for bookplates or anything that Qtkyuuko wants, I just didn't want to cut them w/o a good finished project in mind)
-origami clip-on bookmark made from another sheet of the origami paper & a large paper clip

Yay! I'm glad that everything seems like it should work out.

I got home today to find a flat rate priority mail box waiting for me and got all excited...until I opened it to find the circuits textbook that I bought for next semester (bleh). Reading this thread made me happy enough to compensate for the unfufilled anticipation though!

Thanks to TheEverFalling, StarSix, and FancySchmancy for volunteering to be swap angels. I quite appreciate it, though I'm glad that angels won't need to be called in  Smiley.  Seriously, people like you are why I love craftster so much!

It's so exciting to see/hear about what some people have received so far. I can't wait to see what everyone else will receive as part of this swap.

I am in love with the microbe! *must learn to knit as well as crochet now*

Actually, it's crocheted! I still haven't learned how to knit in the round (don't have circular or double-pointed needles) so I was motivated to learn how to crochet, since crocheting in the round seems so much simpler than knitting in the round. This was actually the first thing I crocheted in the round other than a swatch, and has been my first and only actual crochet project thus far.

I love giant microbes! I wish I could buy the whole set, but maybe I'll try to crochet them all instead!

OMG! I love the DNA necklace! How'd you  do it?

I found a website for beaded DNA double helices and made DNA earrings, which I posted about here:
There's a link there to the original site I used. I was going to make a pair of DNA earrings for needlesandpins, but she has gauged ears, so I just added more base pairs than I would for earrings (for a longer DNA strand) and made a necklace.

Oh yeah, happy belated birthday to needlesandpins!

Needlesandpins, I'm so glad that you liked your stuff! I took photos, so you don't have to find a camera to borrow.
