1  Re: Fancy pants belt swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by Dorkabrain on: May 09, 2005 02:28:36 AM
Glad it got there ok, Hawaiilove. Sorry it's a bit costumey, I feel bad now. Sorry for my daftness, but what is Burning Man?

Crafty_dame, sorry for the delay in the pictures, here's the belt on me, unfortunately my waist just doesn't do it justice.

haha, the pictures are so grainy, I almost look like I'm wearing stonewash jeans.

2  Re: Show off your hair! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by Dorkabrain on: April 24, 2005 04:08:10 PM
I think I've had every colour known to man, though I'm from Australia so I usually use something called fudge. I've had green, orangey red, marooney red, blue, purple, pink, black, blond. About a year and a half ago I had a mohawk, but many people kept bugging me to make it more 'normal' for my wedding, so i got chin length extensions and dyed it black.

Here's one from 2003, it's my natural auburn colour but the most stylised cut I've ever had:

my mohawk before it got dyed:

this is my pink mohawk stage from last year (yes, I was referred to as Pink more than once):

At the moment, the extensions have been taken out and so I have just past chin length, with the black on the ends and auburn regrowth. I'm going back to the job that allowed the pink mohawk soon, so I'm sure I can do something with it.

I just received my awesome package of stuff from Donhae today, sorry about the bad pictures but my place is a mess from getting ready to move and this was the biggest clean flat area I could find.

Some overview shots:

My personal favourite parts, a cool little painted teacup/saucer candle holder set and a 'eat me' candy case:

5  Irish tshirt recon in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Dorkabrain on: January 28, 2005 11:08:49 PM
So they were selling these five dollar tshirts with 'cute/funny' sayings about being Irish and such at Target, just in times for St Patricks day in about 6 weeks or so. It seems they have cheap little boring tshirts with sayings on them for every occasion at Target now.

Anyway, I liked it enough to get it, but knew it needed something extra...So after removing the original sleeves and playing around with some St Patricks Day/peanuts themed material I came up with this:

close up of add on material

Nothing spectacular, I know, but at least it will look somewhat different to anyone else's irish themed tshirt heh.

6  White Stripes Jordy Bag with a flap. in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Dorkabrain on: December 17, 2004 12:18:59 AM
ok so this is my second attempt at the brilliance that is the Jordy bag. It all started with the lining material which I found in the Jo-annes holiday section for 50% off and instantly thought of the White Stripes.

Thus I came up with this, apart from being a jordy bag, I put a flap and one extra long strap because I don't think the under the shoulder thing suits me. comments please.

oh and don't mind my clothes, they're my 'I'm sick and I don't care how I look' clothes.

It's not the best, but I guess once I get used to making them I'll get better. Practice makes perfect and all that. Hope you like it.

7  Simplicity 5092 or My first attempt at using a pattern. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Dorkabrain on: November 16, 2004 02:20:44 PM
As I mentioned in LetsRead's thread, I too used the same pattern she did. It was my first time sewing an actual pattern, so I hit alot of bumps in the road. I made it to wear for the christmas gathering deal.

Letsread's dress looks SO much better than mine.

Here it is, please be kind:

I'm wearing a puffy peasant top underneath and a belt to tighten it.

and here's the fabric up close up:

I really think they should write the instructions out as if talking to a five year old, just incase there are people like myself who has never done it before. Alot of it I had trouble getting right away, and since I didn't do regular fittings on myself through out the process (I just went by the size) it turned out a little too roomy.
So I put some eyelets in the back and made it corset style to tighten (that was after the picture was taken hence the belt).

8  Jack Skellington money purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Dorkabrain on: November 07, 2004 09:43:50 PM
I'm making a couple of these for little christmas presents for friends. I've never put a zipper in before, and I put this one in by hand so please excuse the messiness of it.

9  Re: white stripes drying your dishes in Stenciling: Completed Projects by Dorkabrain on: October 19, 2004 02:56:48 AM
cowgirl, there were multiple images on the wallpaper (yes computer wallpaper), so I cropped it down and then did the whole making it into a stencil thing. I don't have photoshop so I use the scanner program I got with my canon printer.

here's the stencil:

10  Lacey wristbands in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Dorkabrain on: October 15, 2004 09:42:59 PM
I was inspired to make these when I saw some on this site http://www.willowtechhouse.com/main.html and didn't think I'd ever want to pay 45 dollars for a wrist band. So I tried to make some and this is what I came up with.

Not exactly the same, but kind of along the same wave length. I'm going to try and sell them on ebay. Don't know how much they should go for yet.
