1  My "Custard" Craft Room [IMG Obese] in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by MrsGraves on: February 03, 2008 10:34:02 AM
Because no man has a custard colored room, right?   Wink

In our old apartment my craft room somehow turned into a "crash" room (I blame the futon) so I vowed that in our new house, my craft room would be just that .. my craft room!  No dog kennels, no guest beds, no Army gear pouring out of closets.  So after a weekend of unpacking, organizing, and throwing all of the stuff that I listed above into my husbands "room of stuff", I present my craft room!  Hope you like Smiley

Rounding the corner from the hallway, you know you are entering my space by the Weasley Family clock outside the door Smiley

The view from the hallway (sorry the picture is so dark, but hello natural lighting!!!)

The closet, which houses my rather pathetic yarn stash, various wips and "I will someday do this" projects, an amigurumi hippo that has needed to be pieced together for almost a year now (oops?), and boxes of pictures that I will go through someday .. maybe Wink

Closeup of the sign next to the closet .. my crafting, and life, mantra.  (Also shows the closest actual wall color)

Closeup of my pathetic yarn stash once again .. it was about double the size until Christmas showed up .. stupid Christmas  Tongue

My grandpa was an animator for Disney long long long ago, and he used to make a TON of pictures like this for all the grandkids after he retired.  When my Dad passed away he stopped drawing and painting unfortunately, so this is the last thing he ever made me Sad  It's lovely though isn't it?

Shelving I put up all by myself (er .. sort of) .. top shelf holds various stuffies & ami's, HP related stuff, and my  House Elf and Sorcerer Mickey hat!

Middle shelf holds stenciling stuff (and my Disney pin collection), Bottom shelf holds books, sketchbooks, misc. crap (fabric, stickers, stationary), my Dad's Giants hat (Gooooo Giants!), and a Squirtle in a Pocket Monster's ball my husband gave me when we first started dating <3

My crafting desk (hi Brian!) that will someday hold a sewing machine.  Someday.

My faaaaavorite part of the whole room .. netting lights from IKEA that I very cleverly attached things to that I like looking at.  Cards from my parents & friends, a picture of my Dad, stepmom, & little sisters, and random other things.

Wall next to the desk has 3 shadow box picture frames my best friend Lo made me

Top of my VCR/DVD combo (how ELSE am I going to watch my old BSB videos Tongue) .. sewing kit, jar of pom poms,  harry potter tin full of ribbons/notions/random crap, and mug o' pens/pencils/markers.

My second favorite part of the room .. a martini glass full of buttons & safety eyes.  I just think it looks cool Wink

That's all!  Who wants to come craft with me?

2  Re: Loved One in the Military Swap Round 2! SIGNUPS CLOSED! in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by MrsGraves on: January 27, 2008 08:52:21 AM
My crafting is going wonderfully .. I am actually almost done  Shocked

I'm Nicole, 26, married to David, 23.  He is Active Duty Army with 1st Cav in Fort Hood, Texas Smiley  He is a 25S, Satellite Communications (Signal Corps), which has the longest AIT of any MOS Tongue  We met in college, got engaged on our 2 year dating anniversary, 4 days after we got engaged he went and joined the Army (much to my surprise!), and a month after that we got married .. and a month after that he left for Basic Training!  Tongue  He did Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA, and AIT at Fort Gordon, GA.  Because his AIT was so long I was allowed to move down there with him and after a few months he was allowed to live with me, so it was pretty nice.  Our two best friends from back in college are both in the Army and stationed here as well (well one is playing in the Sandbox currently Tongue), and David's best friend from Basic/AIT is stationed here, so we've been pretty lucky in that respect.  I have my degree in Elementary & Secondary Education with a dual major in English & American Sign Language, and I work full time teaching Pre-K.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful & crafty Sunday!

3  Granny Square Lovey in Crochet: Completed Projects by MrsGraves on: January 20, 2008 01:10:22 PM
I wanted something super easy and thoughtless to do one night while the boys were playing video games, so I made a little lovey blanket for the babies first birthday using some scraps of Peaches & Creme, Caron Simply Soft, & Moda Dee Cheerio I think?

A close up of the stitches Smiley

4  Mickey Mouse Headband (Img Heavy) in Crochet: Completed Projects by MrsGraves on: January 20, 2008 01:06:06 PM
In preparation for an upcoming trip to Disney World for my baby sisters birthday, I have begun crafting anything Disney-related I can find.  Modifying the flower headband in the tutorials list here, I came up with this!

With flash but you can see the mickey head best in this picture

No flash so the color is true in this one

Action shot!

Whatcha think?

5  Wall Letters :) in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by MrsGraves on: December 14, 2007 04:18:52 PM
Using thankyoulocust's WONDERFUL tutorial I completed these in about 2 hours or less last night for the 2 year old's room:

Which will be going in that glaring blank spot above her bed you see here:

Now keep in mind I am a complete crafting idiot most times with anything non-crocheted, so there were some issues I had.  And for those that are like me, I present:

Things I Learned The Hard Way

It is near impossible to find any scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby that has butterflies on it.  Or any combination of yellow/purple on the same paper.  You can, however, still find plenty of Halloween scrapbook paper in the middle of December.  Good to know.

Really, really, REALLY take your time laying down the paper on the letter after you modge podge.  That stuff sticks well, air bubbles love to pop up on curvy letters (such as S's) and you after spending 20 minutes trying to coax the paper up slowly and/or somehow smooth out the now present air bubble, you will start berating your husband over his choice of children's names and how many "S's" are in them.  Then you will attempt to mask the air bubbles with painted circles (See the first "S" in picture)

When smoothing down the edges with your finger .. don't run it speedily across the edge thinking it will save time.  You will give yourself one heck of a paper cut and spend the next two hours whining about it to anyone that will listen, including the cats.

Rub-on ANYTHING is the devil.  Especially "stickers".

When they tell you to use the acrylic sealing spray in a well-ventilated area .. they're not kidding.

Good luck! Cheesy

6  Some recently finished projects [Slightly Image Heavy] in Crochet: Completed Projects by MrsGraves on: December 14, 2007 04:04:50 PM
So working full time, moving, deployments and homecomings, and a new puppy (to go along with our current zoo) have left little time to craft, but it's just about the only thing that keeps me sane, and so I had to squeeze it in somewhere.  Here are some recently finished projects:

The "Daughter" hat from Mr. Funky's Super Crochet Wonderful done with an H hook in some stash yarn that has long since lost it's wrapper.  It's nice and bulky and soft though!

The scarf is just double crochet, and the hat is from this pattern:  http://firebrunette.blogharbor.com/blog/FREEPATTERNS/_archives/2007/9/26/3255273.html
Which I highly recommend if you like tight fitting crochet beanies like myself.

And yes, I did just randomly put them on my Hubbles while he was playing the Wii, snapped a picture, and ran off giggling .. poor boy Tongue

7  Re: First project - pit bull shirt (img heavy due to excitement) in Screen Printing: Completed Projects by MrsGraves on: November 28, 2007 06:47:54 AM
Oh I love it!  We have a blue pitt mix, Connor, and I am constantly trying to take a good picture of him to make into a stencil .. so far, no luck, or maybe my stencil making abilities just lack Tongue

8  Re: Army Blanket HOOAH! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by MrsGraves on: November 25, 2007 08:34:59 AM
Hooah and a great job from a fellow Army Wife!  I made a similar blanket and pillow once when DH was in AIT, but C-Dog claimed it Tongue

And I got both fabrics at Walmart as well!

10  Little Dino Girl - Image Heavy :) in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by MrsGraves on: October 30, 2007 05:53:32 PM
So what do you give your baby sister who is obsessed with dinosaurs for Christmas?  A doll of her in a dinosaur costume of course!

I used Owly's Luke in a dinosaur costume and whipped this up in one night .. the pattern was amazing!  I used an H hook instead of a G but other than that followed it to a tee .. well the colors are different of course but ya know.  I still need to add hair and am debating on a mouth.  Opinions?

And just for fun, the baby sister.  Told ya she was obsessed Tongue
