1091  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: My CuppyCakes! on: June 27, 2007 05:42:05 AM
Excellent! After seeing a knit version posted recently, I was going to try to figure out a crochet pattern, so now I know it can be done! I could probably figure it all out from your pics, except for the part where the pink top joins the brown bottom.

About how big would you say each cupcake is? And how long did each one take?

Thanks for sharing!

If you give me just a few minutes, I can whip up a tutorial for it. The cupcakes are a little bit bigger than a CD, and they took me literally 15-20 min to make one. I think I may be a slow crocheter, haha. Anyway, I will post a tutorial very soon!
1092  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Anymore Beginner Swaps? on: June 27, 2007 05:39:39 AM
I am sure I'm posting in the wrong place, but I can't find where to post at. I'm a beginner & REALLY want to participate in swap. Every swap I've found (the newbie one JUST closed arghh) requires participation in 2 previous swaps, so that's out. Anyway, I can't go back to work until my son starts school (end of August), so I have a good bit of free time on my hands. What better way to spend it? So, if anyone can help me out (or possibly do a personal swap...if those are allowed of course!!), I'd really appreciate it. I was browsing through all of the galleries of finished swaps & I got so excited when I saw what everyone was receiving. I desperately want to join one!

Thanks in advance for any help!!

p.s. If I posted in the wrong place, please forgive me & direct me! Smiley
1093  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: I need pattern tips & help!! Pretty please? on: June 27, 2007 04:52:42 AM

If you are willing to experiment a bit...

a) Find a pattern you like, and make it with thinner yarn and a smaller hook; doing a swatch should give you a reference/ratio as too how much it will scale the sweater down.

b) If you want to be really daring, do a larger pattern in wool, and then felt it down to size -- risky but exciting!

Good luck!
 Smiley

Thanks!! I will most likely try using baby yarn & a smaller hook. I've tried felting once & it's not my cup of tea (I'm assuming I did it wrong or tried too big of a project when I attempted it). But I most likely try to use thinner yarn & a smaller hook.

Thanks again!!

I'm not a crocheter but i am a Chihuahua owner and have been around them all my life (my family used to breed them) and I'm not trying to say she's not cold, i just thought I'd say that chihuahuas shake and shiver alot regardless if they are cold or not. But neways like I said not trying to be mean or tell you shes not cold just wanted to let you know that they do shake and shiver, you may or may not know so just throwing it out there. hope i dont offend you.. Have a great day! and good luck with the pattern! Grin

Oh no, you didn't offend me. I noticed when we first got her that she shook all the time, but with the a/c being so low (well low for me...I'm cold natured myself), I walk around the house with long pants, socks, & sometimes a zip-up hoodie on. haha. So, if I'm cold, I'm figuring so is she. Also, at night when we snuggle (we put my kids to bed & then it's Molly's turn for attention), I get us a blanket & she hides her entire body underneath it. She's even pulled the bottom pad of her bed (my husband got her a cuuute pink velour (sp?) bed) & buries herself under it sometimes (yet she won't use a blanket if I put in her bed...odd dog). So, that's why I wanted to make her some sweaters. Besides, by the time I can get around to making her just one, I'm sure it'll be winter anyway. Smiley Thank you for your comment!
1095  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: How do you interpret THIS?? on: June 26, 2007 07:33:26 PM
It's written in charts. If you pick up any book or doily magazine (like the newest edition of Crochet Today) that has instructions on how to read the chart, then you should be able to figure it out. I have a little bit of skill with reading charts, but it's hard for me to try & explain it through typing. Basically, the "x" stands for a single crochet, the "T" with the dash in the middle means double crochet (and if it has more than one dash in it, then increase it..ex: 2 dashes means treble crochet). It looks like the main part of the hat is made from clusters. You will see a bunch of double crochet symbols that look like they all share the same "top"...count how many there is & that's how many dc's you need to make for your cluster.

I could go on & on, but I'm afraid that I might confuse you. Anyway, good luck & seriously, the new edition of Crochet Today has tips on reading charts like this one (well not the Japanese part haha).

Congratulations!! I was the same way when knitting first clicked for me. Feels good, huh?  Cheesy
1097  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / I need pattern tips & help!! Pretty please? on: June 26, 2007 07:24:27 PM
Hey everyone. I have officially become addicted to this site. Anyway, I have been searching the net for a sweater pattern for my teacup chihuahua. Her name is Molly & at her fattest, she weighed 3lbs. My hubby keeps the a/c at 74 degrees here & I've put a blanket in her bed, but she doesn't grasp the whole snuggle-under-the-blanket concept, so I want to crochet her a sweater. She's always shivering. Here's a picture of her:

Every pattern I've found for chihuahuas has been too big.

Any ideas?
1098  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / My CuppyCakes! **Now with a tutorial!** (Pic Heavy!!) on: June 26, 2007 07:04:23 PM
Well, after studying twinkiechan's cupcake scarf very closely, I came up with my own version of the cupcake. I lovelovelove them & can't wait to finish them up & make myself a scarf for this winter! I haven't weaved in the ends or decorated them (I want to buy some pom poms Smiley ), but at least it's a start!

All comments & constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Smiley

My lovelies

1099  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Children & Baby Patterns on: June 26, 2007 06:05:40 PM
Have you tried crochetpatterncentral? They have a big selection and most dresses start at a small size but the bigger sizes are in parenthesis. Also I checked out quite a few books form the library with children patterns in it. How old is your daughter?

She's a year old, but she's a small 1 yr old, apparently. She was born 6 weeks premature, so she's usually fits a smaller size or is right on target for her age, but she's kind of chunky too (her thighs haha). I've tried crochetpatternscentral.com, but none of the stuff on it really struck my fancy. I think I have a somewhat funky style. I'm a HUGE fan of twinkiechan, so I guess I like "different" & unique things. But thank you for the suggestions!! Smiley
1100  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Children & Baby Patterns on: June 26, 2007 05:51:28 AM
Hello everyone! I'm looking for patterns to crochet my daughter some cute clothes. I really want to crochet her some cute dresses, but every pattern I've found is usually written for size 6 months or smaller (and I'm not that great at modifying the pattern to fit my daughter) I have started one dress, but it has taken a back burner because I suddenly wasn't very fond of the color (it's bright green with bright pink accents). Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm mainly looking for cute dress, tops (halter or not), skirts, & pants/shorts patterns. Thanks in advance for all your help!
