This is my first project posted to Craftster so please be gentle with me!
I recently started trading postcards on Postcrossing and I decided to make a box to hold the cards I received. This is a cigar box which I covered with vintage maps (from an old atlas, circa 1910 I think?). I added a few beads for dimension (including a "you are here" star in the middle of the ocean!). Inside the box, I left part of it uncovered intentionally; I just liked the look of the wood. There are some mother-of-pearl-type beads on the inside cover.
After this was completed, I put it aside and at one point left some papers on top of it... on a really hot day, the Modpodge softened and the papers stuck to the top! You can see a couple of places where it left marks on top. I decided that it was okay; it just makes it kind of look older, which I wanted for the look anyway. It happened on the inside edges as well, where the paper on the bottom stuck to the top. I think next time I would not line the inner edges, but since I did and they got messed up, I debated about lining them again but decided not to so that the box still closes cleanly.
It's not perfect but I like how it came out overall. I did realize though that it's not going to hold very many postcards, but that's good -- gives me an excuse to do another one!
