this is great. i love the idea, and the sentiment. it looks awesome. good friend!

Thanks so much!

awesome project, even more awesome sentiment

and where oh where do you find potter toile in this world...

Thank you!  I bought it from an interior designer who was clearing out inventory. If I remember correctly, the date on the selvage was sometime in the late 1980s.  I was so afraid of cutting it incorrectly (since I didn't have a plan for mounting it, etc when I started) that I worked on it while it was still attached to 2 yards of 54" material!  Awkward!

Excellent!

Grin  I absolutely love this!

Gosh, thanks guys!

That's wonderful.  When a good friend of mine was hospitalized with cancer our fav nurse had a big, neon pink pin that said "CANCER SUCKS!" and we loved her for it.  This seems like the after work version.  Lovely stitching, too.

Thanks! I know she'll be touched that I made something for her, I just hope she likes it-likes it.

That is great. Very nice stitching and very well stated. You're both in my prayers Smiley

Thank you!  I'm trying to be looser with my stitching and feel like I accomplished it a bit here, but some people are giving me a little flack about that. Ahem, you know who you are.

OMG I sooooo love this Smiley its super duper fab!!! The idea is great and I am totally going to borrow it....I have some toile that I have no clue what to do with....now its gonna have naughy words and get framed as Xmas gifts!!!!

I am sure you friend will love her gift

Thank you!  I can't take credit for being the first person to embroider on toile, but I did think of it before I saw Richard Saja's work (which you should check out).

This is for a long-time friend of mine who has cancer... again. It's back, it's mean, it's going to be with her forever as she lives in and out of remission. And live she will; I don't know anyone tougher than she.

It's stretched over stretchers designed for artists' canvas.

A closer look at the stitches:

I covered the back (which is a mess - you can tell I've never stretched canvas before) with unbleached muslin that I personalized and then covered the edges with this wide twill tape I had laying around and attached a hanger.

A closer look at the teeny tiny stitches that I did in the car. I didn't get any blood on it at all!

I used gimp from my stash to add a touch to the edge and a black upholstery nail to finish it off.

A close-up of the text, because who doesn't want a closer look at embroidered cussin'?

Firsts for me on this project:  mixing floss colors on the needle (is there a term for this?), split stitch, stretching across stretcher bars, playing with toile, crafting a cuss word and using the mature img feature here.  Wink

And finally the before picture of this portion of the Beatrix Potter toile:

UPDATE: I gave it to her today (May 14) and I think she really liked it!  At the very least she liked that I made her something.  Whew!
4125  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Stumpwork Crown on: April 27, 2009 05:40:49 PM
Wow!  I think you've found a really fetching way to use stumpwork with that crown!  The combination of the metallic against the black and the relief against the flat is really striking.  But, boy I hear you with the treachery of metallic threads!  I've been scared off until further notice.

GET A BOTTLE! I looked through both online albums and coudln't stop 2 hours later I finished BUT it was soooooo worth it!

hehehe!  I was telling The ManFlesh about those awesome magnets and he was wondering if you went to all that trouble from just my "There's no such thing as too much carpincho." tagline and I told him that I sent my craftster peeps links to the galleries.  My goodness, I didn't think I was asking for y'all to take hours!  Yikes!  Of course, it paid off in carpincho magnets. Hmmm....
