21  Easter Egg Backdrop in Easter by TheMistressT on: March 24, 2017 01:35:22 PM

Really the best place for the faux chocolate jackalope that I made was on the kitchen counter in this corner behind the stove. BUT the jackalope is brown and so is the counter and backsplash, so he needed a little backdrop to give him the focus he deserves.

It's made entirely from stash which always makes me feel good. Scrapbook paper on black mat board with ruffled crepe paper streamers.

I used book tape to make a little socket for a piece of dowel that has a base made from moulding scrap.

The whole thing comes apart for easy storage and in case I want to use the stand for something else.

He's super fun! And the chocolate highlights his angles (like his little bun bun haunches).

As the antlers are wire with painted paper mache, I'm assuming the wires are threaded into the ceramic. Is this right? Did you use a drill with tape?

I have a horse that needs to be an outrageous unicorn.

Thanks! I drilled holes in the ceramic before painting, then used the wires and a goodly gob of glue. I wish I'd made a bit of a "plug" with some of the paper mache on the wire since the holes were much bigger, but these antlers were the 3rd attempt and my frustration and impatience got the best of me.

Here's a shot that shows the dremel bit I used, I was practicing on the bottom. I also stopped a few times for each hole to dip the bun in cold water.

24  Faux Chocolate Easter Jackalope! in Easter by TheMistressT on: March 20, 2017 03:14:44 PM

Hoo boy. I have been wanting to make a faux chocolate rabbit for a couple of years and then last summer I finally found a thrift store ceramic Easter Bunny. Then I I put him in the closet until a couple weeks ago when I decided that just a plain, old, traditional chocolate rabbit wasn't going to jussssst right. Mine needed to be a jackalope!

When I went to make a bow for his neck, I got the epiphany to make him a necktie instead. I don't know why but I just find it super funny!

His egg is a painted wooden egg and the next in the basket is made with polymer clay. The antlers are painted paper mache on wire.

I put a tutorial of sorts on my blog: https://suddenlytaxidermy.blogspot.com/2017/03/faux-chocolate-jackalopes-tutorial.html

27  Belt Buckle "Holster" in Completed Projects by TheMistressT on: March 10, 2017 06:26:06 PM

The ManFlesh likes slightly outrageous belt buckles and has a small collection that sat in a pile on his chest of drawers. To make them easier to choose and also display them, I made this "holster" for them based on a vintage piece I saw on Ebay a couple years ago.

It will hold a dozen buckles and with his two belts will mean his collection can expand to 14 before we need to find another solution. Luckily, he's neither a shopper nor a collector. Wink

Each "slot" consists of a snapped flap and holes to hold the buckle in place as if it were installed on the belt.

I used a piece of scrap closet rod I had from renovating our closet, a couple upholstery tacks and a strip of the cork-backed vinyl the rest of it is made from to make the hanger.

And this is the back.

This was a very late Christmas gift (there were... challenges... to getting the proper materials and tools and then trying to find time to concentrate was it's own challenge). So I hung it on the wall over his chest of drawers, then taped wrapping paper and a bow to the wall over it and presented it to him that way.

28  Stash-busting Cards in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by TheMistressT on: March 02, 2017 06:47:49 PM

I received some fun craft supplies from a couple of friends for my birthday, including some stamps and papers. So I decided to get dig in to my stash, play with the new stuff, and make a few cards to have on hand. Most will likely be used for thank you notes.

The tags are all made from greeting cards we have received  after we've enjoyed them displayed for awhile.
