11  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Mini Art Quilt Swap 8 Gallery on: May 04, 2017 02:42:41 AM
My MAQ doesn't look as bad on pictures as it did when it was on my desk  Grin I guess when it's right in front of you, you still have this image in your mind of how it was supposed to turn out. It's very different from anything I have ever made before and it didn't turn out as planned, but there's not really anything truly wrong with it.

Wow, that unicorn is amazing! The details are fantastic.
13  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Chickens, chickens, chickens mini art quilt on: April 26, 2017 10:50:12 AM
I am the lucky person this MAQ was made for! I really love it, I like the chickens and indeed, they really have personalities with their different colour combinations. And chickens definitely do have personalities! I like the fifth one too. It's not a craft disaster to me, but I get what you mean. There's a lot more pattern / colour in that one. I like the burlap too. I like the 3D effect and it really has the right texture for straw. Yours was mailed yesterday (forgot to PM that, will do that now Smiley ) so I hope you receive it before you leave.

Congrats! I see mine's next month. I had no idea I'd been on here for so long...

I received mine today! Thanks Wendiek! I really love it!

I had asked for a farm theme. My family used to have a small farm when I was a kid. I live in the inner city now and we are longing for a more rural life some time in the future. I think I did mention that in my questionnaire, but I'm fairly certain I did not mention my dad's a prize winning poultry breeder and we had a couple of hundred chickens. So that's a really nice coincidence. I have always loved chickens, it's very relaxing to sit and watch them from a distance.

I really love the bright colours and the burlap is a really nice touch too. The quilting is very neat and clean on the back and the eyes are seed beads. I really like it a lot and it's already on the wall of my sewing room!

Really nice Cmarion! The pattern is interesting and I always love Robert Kaufman's kids fabrics. The quilting also really suits the pattern.

I was going to finish last weekend but I'm still working on it today  Sad This is my first MAQ and it's harder than I thought it would be. The plan I had in my head is just not working out and now I'm just trying to see what I can make of it instead. Luckily there's still today and a couple of hours tomorrow ...

Where are you in Belgium, Lilibet? If you are anywhere near the NL border, I have seen this kind of thick foam on sale over here at my town's weekly market. It's on large rolls and you can just buy the amount you need. It's also definitely on sale online and specialist furniture upholstery places will have it, as well as larger fabric / interior fabric stores. If you speak Dutch, the name of the stuff you're looking for is koudschuim for the quality stuff and PE for the lower quality stuff. It's the same stuff that's inside your mattress.

I still have much more to do than I had originally planned. I worked on it over Easter, but to translate the idea in my head to fabric takes more time than expected. I'm not an experienced quilter and this is my first MAQ. But there's still enough time until sendouts.

alwaysinmyroom I did that, when I went to study abroad years ago. I went there with just clothes in a large backpack ( I rented a fully furnished room on campus) but over time you do buy stuff that you want to take home, mostly books. When I was there I bought a suitcase and paid extra for the additional luggage, which was fairly cheap. Plus, I didn't own a suitcase before so I needed that anyway.

edel I read in your profile you're in the west of Ireland. That's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. We have friends in Ireland and have travelled through the country a few times. When we're there, we always point out small cottages that we'd like to buy to retire to when we're older, but dreaming is easy. To actually live in rural west coast Ireland isn't easy I think. It's not just fabric stores you're far away from, but I also see how an environment like that would indeed boost your creativity. Having lived in the Netherlands for almost my entire life, where everything is flat, neat, square and planned, I have always loved rugged places like Ireland and Wales.

I really like your hexie project, it's such a wonderful idea to stamp over it! But you're one of the few people on here who isn't bitten by the hexie bug?
