1  Re: 2017 QuiltAlong in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by Immaculata on: April 09, 2017 11:39:50 AM
Hi, I'm Susanne! I'm late twenties, from the Netherlands, and currently working as the finance person in a small business while doing a law degree parttime. I'm nearly done with my degree and it's tax season in my job, so I'm quite busy at the moment but looking forward to a summer with lots of quilting!

I didn't get too much done last year either, I managed just two:

In Full Bloom Quilt, I did the blocks years ago, just needed put it together

Ready, set, go! quilt for a friend's baby boy. Baby boy got this one for his 3d birthday ...  Roll Eyes

Plans for this year:
- I participated in the hexie swap and received a pile of 2" hexies. I received literally hundreds of hexies and squares of fabric and I'm nearly done sewing them up. I will need to make a lot more because I want this one to be bed sized.

- My boyfriend and I have decided to get married. We'll only have a small wedding (no date yet, but probably spring 2018) but I want to celebrate this special occasion by making a special heirloom quilt. I haven't decided the design yet. I'm looking for something that's not too boring, it needs to have a bit of "edge" , but I also don't want to make it too trendy as it's not supposed to look old fashioned in five years. Having it professionally quilted is in my wedding budget  Tongue

-I'm in the Mini Art Quilt Swap, but of course I can't say anything about that.

-I'd love to do another round of the hexie swap!

Progress on the hexies:

For scale, the bed is 1.80 m wide. I was going in rounds until I unfolded the entire thing one day and found out I wasn't really going in rounds anymore  Roll Eyes . Also, as everyone's templates are slightly different in size (only 1 or 2 mm, no big differences) sometimes you have to put in some work to make them fit. I've kept all the paper templates, but when I'm going to stitch up more hexies for this project, I'll only use one type of template.

3  Michael Powell cross stitch in Needlework: Completed Projects by Immaculata on: January 15, 2017 04:54:26 AM
I finished the English cottage years ago, and the Greek island one recently. I have framed them now in matching cheap Ikea box frames (Ribba). The frames are 9x9", the cross stitched picture is about 5x5". The picture mounts came with the frames and happened to be exactly the right size and colour. I'm not very good at cutting straight edges so I was very happy to find out that the mounts matched exactly.

-- edit: I just don't seem to be able to rotate those pictures. They are rotated on my computer, but they won't upload that way on here. Anyone has any advice about that?

4  Ready, set, go! quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by Immaculata on: December 27, 2016 09:15:48 AM
I recently finished this using fabrics from the Ready, set, go range by Robert Kaufman. It's for a little 3 year old boy who's mad about cars. I've chosen for a completely different backing so he can just turn over the blanket and have a completely different quilt on his bed.

I did everything by machine. I quilted in the ditch using a green-blue thread that's not really visible on the front but the perfect colour for the back. I used MareMare's great tutorial for the machine binding (I usually do). You might be able to see I forgot to cut off some threads from the back, but I did that as soon as I noticed them on my camera .... Grin

Here are my final two groups to post:

from Immaculata

Isn't the tiny house the cutest?

I don't think you lost any! Or not more than a few or I'd miss some. I remember now that your hexies were the last ones and I was one template short of 24. I tried to send everyone about 30 in total and I might have thrown in a few more for you to compensate for that one I was short.

I received from craftADDchick today! I'll have pics tomorrow.

I love the tiny heart fabric Quaggy!

I received from Amazon warrior and Averia this week. These are from Amazon warrior:

and she also sent me a really nice piece of fabric that also happens to match a stitched picture that I made years ago and never actually finished up.

These are from Averia. Look at the pieced ones!!!!

Thank you both so much! Smiley

From Quaggy:

Lots of extras, I stitched some of them already as I had some templates left over. I just noticed that my templates have slightly curled. I'm not sure how that happened, maybe it's because of the glue? I hope it didn't happen in any of the templates I sent to you all.
