2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knitting for children? on: January 05, 2008 08:22:18 PM
Well, he made a scarf today, and he did pretty well, actually!  I think he likes the thicker needles, because they are easier for him to see the seperate stitches.  My mom went out with him last night, and they got some stuff from Joanns that had "kid friendly" patterns, and I think he felt a little better that there was another little boy there that knits, too.  His mom helped out my little guy and my mom pick out some books that helped them!  Well, je is on his way, I guess.  I kinda like that I can sew on my machines, and instead of him being plugged into the video games and the TV, he is creating right along side of me! Cheesy

You Craftsts are the best EVER!!!  I picked up the Kid's Knitting book for him, and my mom actually ran out and got him shorter needles.  But here is an interesting thing, the legnth of the needles really didn't seem to make a difference, it was the DIAMETER of them.  So we dug some really fat needles out of my mom's sewing jungle, and he was knitting up a STORM all day today!  Thank goodness for knitting when there is a blizzard outside!!  I am going to have to post some of the stuff that he makes, cause I am sorta put to shame with his skills!!  He also went on Etsy today and saw all of the crochet animals, and wants to try that sometime.......another thing I am clueless about!!  LOL!  At least between the two of us, we will have all realms of the crafting universe covered!!! Cheesy

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knitting for children? on: December 21, 2007 07:37:05 AM
I searched for a thread that discussed this, and I was unsuccessful.  I have a 7 year old little craftster, and he is so crafty, he puts me to shame.  We started with sewing on my machine, and marble magnets.  He is a little bored with these things that he deems "baby stuff" and has been taught by the art teacher at his school to do finger weaving with yarn.  Well, he has completed scarves for all of his Christmas gifts this year, and is now begging me to learn how to knit and crochet!!! Undecided

Now, I am a sewer, and a crafter pretty much all around, but I could not knit or crochet to save my life, and I have no clue where to start for not only a beginner, let alone a little boy.  I am coming up empty handed as to where to even begin!!  I figure that you Craftsters would be the perfect place for me to go.  If anyone has any ideas or tips, please let me know!!!!! Wink
