21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Traveling Little Visitor Swap Round 25 Gallery on: May 01, 2017 10:18:54 AM
Aurora came with me to Dapper Day yesterday at Epcot! Dapper Day happens two times a year; spring and fall. It occurs at Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Paris in France. The idea is that back when Disneyland (California) first opened in 1955, everyone wore their "Sunday Best." Women wore dresses; men wore suits. So it's a day designed to embrace "stepping out in style" in the parks again. A lot of people do a 50's style, though it's not limited to that. And, a lot of people do what's known as "Disneybounding" where you wear an outfit that's reminiscent of a character, movie, attraction, etc. (It's kinda like a more subtle version of cosplay. You're not trying to be identical, but you're using clothing and accessories to give a similar look/feel.)

So, yesterday was Dapper Day at Epcot! It was SO HOT (about 94f / 34c) but we braved the weather and went. I did a Figment bound. Figment is the purple dragon from the Imagination ride and he's the unofficial mascot of Epcot. All day people were excited by my outfit and knew who I was styled after. It was also Flower and Garden Festival so the whole park is done in up flowers and topiaries making for a beautiful backdrop.

Entrance to Epcot and the famous Spaceship Earth geodesic globe:

Figment even has his own topiary!

Aurora came with me to my mom's today and she had to entertain herself while I was cleaning the house. She found my mom's orange tree in the backyard.

Poor thing got sick and they cut it back to a stump last year but amazingly it grew back! It had blossoms this year even, though this teeny, tiny little bump was the closest to fruit that the tree got this year. Maybe next year. We were just impressed it came back at all!

Ha ha!  I love that you've trained them to expect you and your current LV. Smiley
Grin Cheesy They are always happy to see me and ask who I have this time and where they are from!

Aurora is having such wonderful adventures!  Actually, I enjoy looking at all the LV pictures whether they are mine or not.  I had no idea they had SLVs (space little visitors).  My husband enjoys space exploration so I was sure to share the video with him.
LOL Me too! I enjoy seeing all the adventures. And I like that. Space Little Visitors. Grin

The Blues had me worried there at the end, but they managed to win the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Clara might have been conflicted rooting for a team other than the Lightning, but she didn't mention it.  Way to assimilate!
No worries. We're a hockey-friendly household around here so she's happy to help cheer on the Blues while staying with you. Sadly, my husband's Bruins got eliminated in game 6 of the first round. Cry

Oh, PFD, my girls are very jealous!!! They are Teen Titans (Go) obsessed and could even point out who it was.
Cheesy  Aw, super cute. I'm not as versed in Teen Titans as Miss Martian and Supergirl are. They're experts! Wink

Oh and Aurora made it to the Emerald City facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/EmeraldCityComics/photos/a.10155254032234108.1073742155.133458589107/10155254102654108/?type=3&theater

Very cool RaraAvis!

Saturday, we had a show. I was super busy all day though so I didn't get a chance to take any pics. (It was the same location though as last weekend's exploratory visit to Dunedin though.) Sunday, we ran over to a comic book store, Emerald City. It was "Teen Titans" day so Aurora got her picture with Robin and Raven.

(Emerald City does these in store meets a lot so other visitors have gotten to meet various other superheroes like Iron Man, Winter Solider, and Batman. So they've all come to enjoy having my current LV get a pic. They usually wind up posting a pic to their facebook page too but they haven't uploaded that album yet. I'll try to update when they do.)

On the way home, I snapped a pic of the view crossing Bayside Bridge. You can't go far around the Bay Area without crossing water since Tampa Bay divides the two halves of the area.

So, I decided to make mine festive in honor of my 40th birthday on May 16th. Instead of just one baby pfd pic, I did a collage. I scanned a bunch of baby pics, did a little color correcting on them (because film from the 70's tends to turn a lovely shade of orange!!) and then made a multicolor background. (The pic of me holding the sign says, "today is may 16th. my birthday. I am 3 years old" aw...)

I repeated the multicolor in a different pattern for the back and kept the same color scheme for the answers.

I printed up sheets of them on glossy paper via my laser printer and cut out and glued them onto ready made atc blanks (just to save my sanity and not overwork my shoulder for which I am undergoing physical therapy for as it is. Cheesy )

Aurora was amused to find "Florida's Key Lime Pie" flavor Slurpee at 7-11. Grin

No, I didn't try it. Honestly, it didn't sound like the best idea for a Slurpee flavor to me, despite being very Florida!

Did you know, we're in good company? There's a tradition of bringing small, plush animals into space: http://mashable.com/2016/03/19/stuffed-animals-nasa-space-station-soyuz/#jCakLiAxxGqS

The latest is a small toy dog just this week: http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/04/20/524883853/astronaut-cosmonaut-and-stuffed-dog-arrive-at-international-space-station

Talk about a great Little Visitor adventure! Grin

I didn't sport a unibrow but I had some SERIOUS woolly caterpillar eyebrows going on in HS (and sadly, into my 20's) before I discovered strategic plucking. LOL
30  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Re: Extra large wire wrapped tree of life SUNCATCHERS! on: April 19, 2017 07:46:34 AM
Ooh, I think they look lovely! They are like slender young saplings. I suppose it would be awkward to use thicker wire to get the more substantial looking trunks of your pendant sized pieces? I do enjoy the look of those very much as well, they remind me of gnarly old grandmothers and fathers of the forest.
Believe it or not, this IS much thicker gauge wire! It's actually 16g. I'm still working on how I can make fatter trunks without drowning in too much wire. LOL It's still a development in progress. Wink

And thank you everyone! I'm still working on it and adapting to the much larger scale so there's more to come with it as I refine the technique further.
